摘要： The present invention provides a topical oxygen therapy system for treating chronic non-healing wounds. The system is configured to be extremely portable, allowing patients to be completely ambulatory during treatment. The topical oxygen therapy system includes an oxygen source and a wound dressing capsule. The oxygen source includes a miniature compressed oxygen cylinder and a miniature pressure regulator that delivers oxygen through an outlet tube to the interior of the wound dressing capsule. The oxygen source may be attached directly to or integrated into the wound dressing capsule. Alternatively, the oxygen source and wound dressing capsule may be separate modules connected by a flexible tube.

摘要： An improved apparatus for hemodialysis treatment includes an ultrasonic module with an ultrasonic transducer coupled to a membrane or hollow fiber dialyzer. An ultrasonic waveform generator is switchable between various modes, including a narrowband sine wave, a variable or sweeping frequency sine wave and a broadband square or sawtooth waveform. A low power setting is used to increase the diffusion rate across the semipermeable membranes of the dialyzer and a high power setting is used intermittently to break up thrombus that may form within the dialyzer. A chamber downstream of the dialyzer has an ultrasonic or optical emboli detector for detecting thrombi or emboli exiting the dialyzer and a focused ultrasonic transducer to break up any emboli in the chamber. A screen or filter at the exit of the chamber prevents thrombi and emboli larger than a certain size from entering the patient's circulatory system.

摘要： Apparatus and methods are described allow the techniques of endoscopic and laparoscopic surgery to be combined into a minimally invasive hybrid surgical technique called NOTES-assisted laparoscopic surgery. Manual and robotic-controlled versions of a modular laparoscopic tool are described having a small diameter shaft that is delivered laparoscopically to a surgical site. Larger diameter working tips are delivered through a NOTES delivery tube inserted to the surgical site through a natural orifice and joined to the shaft of the modular laparoscopic tool. Larger diameter working tips improve the effectiveness of the modular laparoscopic tools and the number and size of laparoscopic ports used can also be reduced.

摘要： A steerable endoscope has an elongated body (102) with a selectively steerable distal portion (104) and an automatically controlled proximal portion (104). The endoscope body is inserted into a patient and the selectively steerable distal portion is used to select a desired path within the patient's body. When the endoscope body is advanced, an electronic motion controller (140) operates the automatically controlled proximal portion to assume the selected curve of the selectively steerable distal portion. Another desired path is selected with the selectively steerable distal portion and the endoscope body is advanced again. As the endoscope body is further advanced, the selected curves propagate proximally along the endoscope body, and when the endoscope body is withdrawn proximally, the selected curves propagate distally along the endoscope body. This creates a serpentine motion in the endoscope body that allows it to negotiate tortuous curves along a desired path through or around and between organs within the body.
