    • A method of manufacturing ceramic bodies having a construction such that cells are alternately sealed at one but not both end surfaces of a ceramic honeycomb structural body by filling a sealing slurry into predetermined cells at both end surfaces of a ceramic honeycomb formed body and sintering the ceramic honeycomb formed body, is performed by: forming a mask for respective ceramic honeycomb formed bodies by arranging a sheet on an end surface of the ceramic honeycomb formed body and piercing holes in the sheet at positions corresponding to the predetermined cells; immersing an end portion of the ceramic honeycomb formed body to which the mask is arranged into the sealing slurry; and filling the sealing slurry into the cells through the holes pierced in the mask.

    • A crankshaft for a V-6 type of internal combustion engine having longitudinally spaced journals and crank pins connected by a series of nine arms numbered from the front end to the rear end of the crankshaft is provided with counterweights on the first, second fifth, eighth, and ninth arms only. A line between a longitudinal axis of the crankshaft and an axis of a forwardmost crank pin defines, with the longitudinal axis, a reference plane. The centers of gravity of the first and ninth counterweights lie in the reference plane on opposite sides of the longitudinal axis and balance each other. The centers of gravity of the second and eighth counterweights are disposed counterclockwise and clockwise in the same quadrants, respectively, from positions that are 150 degrees and 30 degrees clockwise from the reference plane, when the crankshaft is viewed from the front. Preferably, the centers of gravity of the second and eighth counterweights are located 135 degrees and 45 degrees, respectively, clockwise from the reference plane. The fifth counterweight balances the second and eighth counterweights.

    • Provided are a die change apparatus for use in a flaskless molding machine capable of mounting dies for producing a casting mold on die bases even when the dies have a great thickness, and a die carrying-in device used therein. The die carrying-in device comprises a first movable plate provided so as to be slidable along a die carrying-in direction toward a first die base, and a second movable plate placed so as to face the first movable plate in a standby position. A die drive source causes dies which have been positioned in a height direction to be detached from the movable plates, move toward the die bases, and be supported by clamping elements. An intersection drive source causes at least one of the first movable plate and the second movable plate to move in a direction to intersect the die carrying-in direction independently of the other.
