摘要： PURPOSE:To improve the precision of catalyst deteriorating state diagnosis by providing a state detecting means to detect a state quantity having correlation with the temperature of a portion that becomes the object of temperature detection and a surmise means to surmise the temperature of the detection object portion. CONSTITUTION:An engine 2 is fitted with an intake pipe 30 to take in air and an exhaust pipe 32 to discharge gas after combustion as exhaust gas. A catalytic converter 4 is provided at the halfway point of the exhaust pipe 32. A catalyst diagnosis system is chiefly composed of a diagnosis device 8, various sensors to detect the operation state of the engine 2, and oxygen sensors 6a, 6b. The diagnosis device 8 possesses in the inside a catalyst state surmising means 80, a conversion efficiency calculating means 82 and a judging means 84. The judging means 84 prepossesses a reference limit value to show a deterioration limit at which a catalyst must be replaced, and conducts the judgment of a catalyst deteriorating state in comparison with the calculating outcome of the conversion efficiency calculating means 82. Thus, the precision of catalyst deteriorating state diagnosis can be improved.

CONSTITUTION:A silicon based Hall IC (a) with a positive temperature coefficient as Hall element 10 and a rare earth permanent magnet (b) with a negative temperature coefficient as permanent magnet 8 of a magnetic flux generation source are combined in such a manner as to be opposite to each other in the polarity of temperature efficient. In this manner, both temperature coefficients cancel each other to obtain a highly accurate sensor with a temperature compensation. To deal with separate variations, values obtained in the full closure at the startup, and in the full closure at the stoppage after the startup are utilized to computer respective temperature coefficients so that a compensation is accomplished by the temperature coefficients. This enables the realization of a highly accurate sensor with limited dependence on temperature.

Based on an individual diagnosis result, a control order being most proper is selected and controlled according to a current operation state. The priority order of the selection and execution is set in the order of restoration control of abnormality, control of ensurance of operability of a vehicle, control of prevention of worsening of exhaust gas characteristics, and control of prevention of worsening of fuel consumption characteristics.

CONSTITUTION:Sahft vibrations are detected by the vibration pickup 6 of a bearing 5, and the output signal thereof is inputted to a vibrometer 7, by which it is converted to an electric signal proportional to vibration amplitudes. This signal is inputted to a multiplex data input device 8. The output signal of the device 8 is inputted via an A/D converter 9 to a control arithmetic device 10. The revolution signal from a revolution detector 13 is amplified and digitized by a tachometer 12, after which it is inputted to the devive 10. The device 10 determines the relation between the number of revolutions and vibration amplitudes by vibration signal and the rotating machine signal at the point of the time when said signal is taken in and further the vibration signal is analyzed by the device 10. By using the vibration value obtained as a result, the evaluation of the cause position for unbalance is executed and the result of the diagnosis is displayed in a display device 11.

That is, the control unit 9 detects the concn. of the exhaust gas component on the downstream side of the catalyst 12 from the hydrocarbon sensor 8 (exhaust component sensor) corresponding to the operation state of the engine and the operation state of the catalyst and subjects the detected value to integrating processing to evaluate and diagnose the catalyst 12. Since the mounting of the sensors on the upstream side of the catalyst in order to diagnose the catalyst 12 is dispensed with, an inexpensive apparatus excellent in durability is obtained.
