    • PURPOSE:To reduce the film thickness of a display layer and to increase a contrast even if a driving voltage drops by inclining the display element for which a high polymer dispersion type liquid crystal is used with the normal of the optical axis of its incident light. CONSTITUTION:The display element for which the high polymer dispersion type liquid crystal is used is constituted by installing the display element at 30 to 70 deg. swing and tilt angle with the normal of the optical axis of the incident light used for making display. Glass, plastic, etc., are used for substrates 101, 101' of such display element. Electrodes 102, 102' are formed thereon and further, a display layer 103 is formed thereon. The formation of the display layer 103 is executed by laminating a porous polymer matrix 104 via an adhesive layer or directly, then dispersing low-polymer liquid crystals 105 therein. The incident light 110 is made incident on the display layer 103 at a certain angle with the electric field to be impressed thereto. This angle is nearly equal to the swing and tilt angle 111 formed by the normal 109 of the display element and the incident light 110 and is used at 30 to 70 deg..

The recess 3a has its height of the gap between the recess 3a and the substrate 2 reduced uniformly from an A direction to a B direction, a vertical distance DB of an opening at the end of the B direction is smaller than a diameter R of a carrier particle F to be used, and a vertical distance DA of the opening at the end of the A direction is several to several hundreds times the vertical distance DB so that an agglutinated substance G can pass through it. The wedge-shaped cover member 3 comprises wedge members 3b, 3c having electric conductivity and a transparent substrate 3d. In addition the wedge members 3b, 3c are opposite electrodes for forming an electric field in the recess 3a.

CONSTITUTION:A wedge-shaped transparent cover member 2 with a recess 2a provided at the center on an inner side is tightly attached on a flat substrate 1 formed of a. transparent member wherein a slit is formed by the recess 2a. Height of the slit between the recess 2a and the substrate 1 is designed to be reduced uniformly. Carrier particles F are sensitized with an immunological active substance, and when a reagent wherein the carrier particles F are dispersed in a liquid medium mainly comprising water is mixed with a sample, reaction occurs so that a plurality of immunological active substances and the carrier particles F form coagulated bodies G. If the reactant solution L is injected into the slit between the substrate 1 and the recess 2a, the reactant solution L enters toward a B direction where a vertical distance is narrow due to surface tension. Since non-coagulated carrier particles F are smaller in diameter, they can move into depth, while the coagulated bodies G are trapped in the midway and suspended depending on their size.

    • PURPOSE:To improve contrast and dispense with a polarizer and/or an analyzer at the time of regeneration by forming a recording layer into two-layer structure, and disposing the optical anisotropic directions of the adjacent recording layers to be orthogonal to each other. CONSTITUTION:A recording layer 4 is clamped between a base 1 provided with an orientation membrane 3 and an electrode 2, and a base 1' provided with an orientation membrane 3'. A recording layer 4' is clamped between the base 1 provided with an orientation membrane 3''' and the electrode 2, and the base 1' provided with an orientation membrane 3''. This recording medium is thus formed into the structure provided with two recording layers. The oriented direction of the orientation membrane 3 is disposed to be orthogonal to that of the adjacent orientation membrane 3', and the orientations directions of the orientation membranes 3' to 3'' and 3'' to 3''' are disposed to be respectively orthogonal. The optical anisotropy directions of the adjoining recording layers 4, 4' are thus disposed to be orthogonal. Contrast can be thereby improved, and a polarizer and/or an analyzer at the time of regeneration can be dispensed with.
