One or more spray nozzles (42, 142, 242) deposit a liquid dispersant onto the contaminant (22) flowing through the aperture (40). Some embodiments include a mixing apparatus (52, 152, 252a, 252b, 252c, 352, 452a, 452b, 452c, 552a, 552b) aft of the aperture (40).

    • A method and apparatus for removal of contaminants from fluid columns utilizes a solidifying polymer-based filtration media to extract pollutants such as organic compounds and metals. Dissolved, emulsified or suspended contaminants are absorbed and solidified into an easily retrievable mass and retained within a replaceable filter container (1) house within filter housing (2) having inlet and outlet ports (2a and 2b). The filter container (1) may be accessed and removed from the housing (2) by removing lid (3). Solidified contaminants may not leach when exposed to pressure limits currently used to determine landfill acceptability, may be incinerated as fuel for their BTU content or used as a component in the production of asphalt, roofing material or other tar-like compounds. Treated fluid columns exit the process containing acceptable levels of contaminants to permit free release into the environment.

    • The invention discloses methods of making oil coagulant compositions, the oil coagulants made thereby and processes for using the coagulants to coagulate oil that has been spilled on water. The coagulant comprises a glyceride, such as, for example, the drying oil linseed oil, a polymer, such as, for example, poly(isobutylmethacrylate), and a solvent, such as, for example, 2,2,4-trimethyl-1, 3-pentanediol monoisobutyrate. The coagulant of the present invention coagulates oil independent of both agitation and temperature, and may be used in both salt and fresh water. After the coagulant has coagulated the spilled oil, the coagulated oil may be readily mechanically removed from the water such that at least 99.9 % of the oil is removed from the water and only a faint trace of oil remains in the water.
