    • A part normally retained in a predetermined position is operated by a pyrotechnic actuator having a housing formed unitarily with a pivot, formed unitarily with mounts for securing the housing to a motor vehicle, and forming a chamber extending along an axis. A latch element is mounted on the pivot and movable thereon between a holding position retaining the part in the predetermined position and a releasing position allowing the part to move out of the predetermined position. A piston having a stem engageable with the latch element is movable axially in the chamber between an inner position with the latch element in the holding position and an outer position with the latch element in the releasing position. A pyrotechnic charge in the chamber is detonatable to shift the piston into the outer position and thereby shift the latch element into the releasing position.

    • A door strike apparatus for enabling opening of a door in the event of a decompression condition experienced within a flight deck area includes a housing supported adjacent the door and a strike arm movable between a locked state restricting rotation of the door and an unlocked state permitting rotation of the door. A solenoid having a lock member retracted from the strike arm when the strike arm is in the unlocked state and engaged with the strike arm when the strike arm is in the locked state. The solenoid is responsive to the decompression condition and selectively toggles the lock member out of engagement with the strike arm to permit automatic unlocking of the strike arm and opening of the door under the decompression condition and into engagement with the strike arm to permit selective locking of the door when the decompression condition is absent.

    • An explosive release window grille system for the window of a house or building. It has a window grille formed from a plurality of laterally spaced vertical bars that are rigidly secured in a grid-like structure by a plurality of horizontal bars. The bottom ends of the vertical bars have an eyelet loop formed in them and a bottom horizontal bar passes therethrough and functions as a shaft about which the window grille can pivot outwardly and downwardly. The opposite ends of the bottom horizontal bracket are secured to the outer wall surface by mounting bracket assemblies. The top horizontal bar has its opposite ends secured to the front wall surface by explosive release bracket assemblies. Each of these assemblies include exploding bolts having an explosive charge mounted in their shank. The bolts are inserted through the wall from the inner surface and their tips are captured by the brackets mounted on the outer surface of the wall. A remotely mounted control panel is electrically connected to the exploding bolts and they are detonated by an electrical impulse sent through the conductor wire. Once the bolts have been detonated, the window grille is pivoted outwardly and downwardly so that it can function as a ladder.
