    • The application discloses a padlock-type security closure comprising a housing (1) and a J-shaped hasp (2), the hasp (2) being locked by a disposable seal (12) having a body (20) and a head (21) separated by a line of weakness (24), the housing (1) having first (8) and second (9) openings to receive the legs (3,4) of the hasp (2), the longer leg of the hasp (3) having a recess (7) on its inside edge for receiving the head (21) of a disposable seal (1) and including means (25) for engaging the head (21), the housing (1) having a third opening (10) which communicates with the opening (9) for the said one leg of the hasp (3) so as to allow insertion of the head (21) of the disposable seal (12), the housing having a seat (11) for the disposable seal, the third opening (10) being laterally of the other openings such that the disposable seal (12) is inserted transversely of the insertion direction of the hasp (2). An edge of the third opening of the housing is adjacent the seat (10) and forms an edge against which the seal (12) is bent to break the seal along the line of weakness (24), and preferably the longer leg (3) of the hasp extends laterally beyond the said bending edge and thus beyond the line of weakness (24) of the disposable seal (12) when the disposable seal (12) is in its inserted position.

    • An electronic seal comprises a housing (12), a cord (14) with one end fixed to the housing (12) and a free end which can be passed through a door catch or the like and releasably connected to the housing (12), an electronic circuit within the housing (12) arranged to generate one of a number of unique codes when a switch (70) in the housing (12) is actuated on connection or disconnection of the cord (14) to or from the housing (12) and a display device (18) which can display the unique code. The cord (14) has a series of regularly spaced enlargements (36), and the interior of the housing (12) has a plurality of teeth (4()) arranged so that when a length of cord (14) at its free end is inserted into the housing (12) the enlargements (36) can fit between the teeth (4()) to hold the cord (14) against withdrawal from the housing (12). A slide (16) is movable in the housing (12) between an open position in which the cord (14) can be inserted into and withdrawn from the housing (12) and a locking position in which it retains the enlargements (36) in engagement with the teeth (40). The switch (70) has an actuating member (72) projecting into the space between two of the teeth (40), so that the switch is actuated when the length of cord (14) is moved into or out of engagement with the teeth (40). The fixed end of the cord (14) is connected permanently to the housing (12) by engagement of enlargements (36) on the cord (14) with a further set of teeth in the housing (12). The cord (14) is held in engagement with the further teeth by the slide (16), when the slide (16) is in the open or locking position. The slide (16) is movable from a third position in which the fixed end of the cord (14) can be inserted into the housing (12) before the seal is first used, but is then prevented from being moved back to the third position.

    • The present invention proposes a sealing bolt (10) for sealing a container lid (12) to a container body (14) with a threaded bore (28), the sealing bolt (10) comprising a bolt shaft (18) having a first shaft end (20) and a threaded second shaft end (22) opposite to the first shaft end (20), and a bolt head (16) connected to the first shaft end (20), the threaded second shaft end (22) cooperating with the threaded bore (28) so as to allow the sealing bolt (10) to lock the container lid (12) between the bolt head (16) and the container body (14), the sealing bolt (10) further comprising a security element with a breakable integrity element (34) for verifying the integrity of the sealing bolt (10). According to an important aspect of the invention, the security element comprises a first part (30) arranged at the second shaft end (22) of the bolt shaft (18), the first part (30) being connected to the bolt shaft (18) and comprising the breakable integrity element (34) therebetween, the first part (30) having a first thread (36) cooperating with the threaded bore (28); a second part (32) arranged between the first part (30) and the second shaft end (22) of the bolt shaft (18), the second part (32) having a second thread (38) cooperating with the threaded bore (28); and a first entrainment means (50) arranged between the first and second parts (30, 32). The first entrainment means (50) is arranged in such a way that, upon rotation of the bolt shaft (18) and the first part (30) in a first direction (52), the second part (32) is entrained in the first direction (52), and, upon rotation of the bolt shaft (18) and the first part (30) in a second direction (54), opposite to the first direction (52), the second part (32) remains stationary.
