    • An article exchange apparatus which can be used in an auto-loader having an exchange arm, an automatic tool exchange apparatus of a machine tool and the like, comprises an indexing mechanism constructed of a prime mover and a plurality of follower units. The apparatus also includes a mechanism for effecting intermittent indexing operations alternately at the plural follower units in response to a rotational drive of the prime mover. A hydraulic circuit is coupled to the prime mover for imparting such a rotational drive thereto, which is necessary for one cycle of a predetermined operational sequence. The prime mover is coupled to each of the follower units so that, with rotation of the prime mover, one of the units is rotated while the other is held fixed. During one full cycle, each of the follower units executes two indexing motions and has two pause cycles. The apparatus also includes a chuck for gripping an article which is engageable with each of the follower units for rotating the chuck and opening and closing the chuck. A first one of the follower units during the latter half of a first indexing movement thereof, closes the chuck and an arm carring the chuck and also forming part of the apparatus is raised during the first indexing movement of the other follower unit. The arm is rotated by the second indexing movement of the first follower unit. The arm is then lowered by the second indexing term of the other follower unit where upon the chuck is opened during the first half of the first indexing movement of the first follower unit.

    • A tape-containing cartridge accommodates an endless tape either in the form of random loops or in the form of a tape roll wound on a single reel. A tape passageway extends the cartridge from a cavity adjacent a back wall, thence between a first side wall and a first internal wall past pad means and thence between a front wall and a second internal wall past a transducer-receiving opening formed in the front wall and thence between a pinch roller and portions of the front and second side walls into the cavity. The second side wall has an opening facing the pinch roller for receiving an external capstan. A positional relationship between the pinch roller and the capstan is selected such that a tangential force line at the contact point of the pinch roller and the capstan points inwards of the second side wall. An inward protrusion and a rotatably mounted guide roller provide a limited opening at the entry to the tape passageway to prevent tape creasing at the entry, while limiting drag on the tape.

    • A manufacturing method of a magnetic recording medium includes follows: forming a magnetic recording layer on a substrate; forming an under layer and a metal release layer that forms an alloy with the under layer on the magnetic recording layer in this order and forming an alloyed release layer by alloying the under layer and the metal release layer; forming a mask layer on the alloyed release layer; forming a resist layer on the mask layer; providing a protrusion-recess pattern by patterning the resist layer; transferring the protrusion-recess pattern to the mask layer; transferring the protrusion-recess pattern to the alloyed release layer; transferring the protrusion-recess pattern to the magnetic recording layer; dissolving the alloyed release layer by using a stripping solution and removing a layer formed on the alloyed release layer from an upper side of the magnetic recording layer.
