    • The tube carrier apparatus is composed of carrier rails, at least a pair of rollers provided so as to pinch a flexible tube therebetween, and a driving section for rotating the rollers. The carrier falls are formed with a groove as a passage for the tube through which the tube is to be carried in the longitudinal direction thereof. When the motor is driven, both the rollers are rotated in two different rotative directions, so that the tube is pinched between the rotating rollers and the tube is then carried in accordance with the rotation of the rollers. The tube carrier apparatus is simple in structure and small in size. Alternatively, the apparatus comprises at least one first passage through which the tube is adapted to pass, a plurality of second passages through which the tube is to be carried, a switching member rotatably or movably disposed between the first and second passages and a driving mechanism for rotating or moving the switching member and including a connection passage for selectively connecting the first passage and any one of the second passages. The switching member is rotated or moved by the driving mechanism to select connection between the first tube passage and any one of the second passages.

    • A shift lever assembly operatively linked with a transmission, for manually operating the transmission, including a shift lever, a support, and a pair of stationary retainer plates. The shift lever has a handle portion at which the shift lever is manipulated, and a spherical coupling portion at which the shift lever is universally supported. The support consists of two halves in the form of a pair of support sheets which have respective adjoining surfaces substantially parallel to a plane in which the shift lever extends. The support sheets cooperate with each other to provide a spherical support portion which engages the spherical coupling portion of the shift lever for universally supporting the shift lever. Each support sheet has an outer surface opposite to the corresponding adjoining surface. The stationary retainer plates are disposed in spaced-part relation with each other on opposite sides of the support, so as to hold the pair of support sheets at their outer surfaces. The assembly may further include a plurality of bolts which penetrate through the thickness of the support sheets and the retainer plates, for fastening the pair of support sheets to each other via the retainer plates.

    • An IPS (In-Plane Switching) liquid crystal display is disclosed that maintains excellent display uniformity and high aperture ratio as well as high yield during fabrication, and that includes a first transparent substrate, a second transparent substrate arranged to confront the first transparent substrate and provided with a second alignment layer, and a liquid crystal component sealed between the first transparent substrate and second transparent substrate. The first transparent substrate is provided with: a transparent insulating substrate, pixel electrodes and common electrodes that are arranged alternately and substantially parallel to each other on the transparent insulating substrate, a plurality of pixels arranged in matrix form, scan lines and switching elements for controlling the electric field applied to the pixel electrodes, signal lines, and a first alignment layer. The direction of initial orientation of liquid crystal molecules in the aperture regions has an inclination of any angle θ other than 0° and 90° with respect to the longitudinal direction of the pixel electrodes. In regions other than the aperture regions, the direction of initial orientation of the liquid crystal molecules is orthogonal to the longitudinal direction of the pixel electrodes when the dielectric constant anisotropy of the liquid crystal molecules is positive, and parallel to the longitudinal direction of pixel electrodes when the dielectric constant anisotropy is negative.
