摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To decrease deterioration in characteristics against hysteresis of temp. cycles or in a high temp. and high humidity environment and to prevent increase in the insertion loss by specifying the depth of a groove and using a thermosetting adhesive having specified elastic modulus after hardened to fix a thin film type optical filter. SOLUTION: A groove 3 is formed to cross the cores 8 of optical waveguides while the depth of the groove 3 is controlled to elastic modulus after hardened is injected into the space of the groove 3 and heated to fix the thin film filter 2. Namely, the groove 3 is formed to cross the cores 8 of optical waveguides on the surface of the optical waveguide substrate 1 by using a diamond blade or the like. Then a filter 2 preliminarily processed into a comblike shape which matches the pitch of the cores 8 of the optical waveguides is inserted into the groove 3. After the optical filter 2 is inserted and fixed, the filter is aligned in the horizontal direction. Then a silicone-based thermosetting adhesive 9 is injected into the groove 3 and hardened by heating.

Then the cavity 9 is formed columnar and provided so that the length of the cavity 9 is along the length of the filter insertion groove 5; and the glass multi-layered film filter 2 is inserted deeply beyond a cut core 4.

CONSTITUTION: A block 401 having V-shaped grooves and pressing blocks 409a, 409b, 409c are used as a molding die for a resin and these blocks form a cavity (the space for injection of a resin) inside. An optical waveguide unit 800 is disposed in this cavity by positioning with a first guide pin and a first guide groove. Then an epoxy resin with a glass filler is supplied through a resin injection port 310 and molded, then the first guide pin 407a and second guide pins 408a, 408b are removed. The end face is ground to obtain a waveguide molded body as an optical waveguide module.

CONSTITUTION: Indexes 12 and 22 comprising a slant surface are formed on surfaces 11 and 21 where an optical element chip 10 and a substrate 20 comprising an optical assembly 1 mutually face, and these indexes are used as a positioning criterion in conducting an index alignment by image instrumentation. Consequently, indexes made up of the slant surface provide a high-precision and easy means of forming the chip and the substrate. In addition, because of high-precision and simple image instrumentation processing, alignment accuracy is improved and assembly cost is reduced.

The glass layer is sintered to the changed into a transparent glass to form a SiO2-B2O3-P2O5 glass having n0 refractive index as the second clad layer 6.

摘要： PURPOSE:To prevent an insertion loss, and to obtain an excellent temperature characteristic even when the linear expansion coefficient of a metallic block not matches with that of an optical part. CONSTITUTION:An optical fiber 3a connected with the input of a waveguide element 3b and four optical fibers 3c connected with the output of the waveguide element 3b are fixed to quartz supporting tools 2a and 2c. The supporting tools 2a and 2c are housed in super-invar metallic blocks 11a and 11c, and adhered and fixed. A quartz waveguide element 3b is directly housed in a block 11b. Units A, B, and C are formed by polishing the butted end surfaces into curved surfaces. The units A and C are butted to the both end surfaces of the unit B, and an refractive index matching agent is applied between the end surfaces with a clearance S. After aligning the fibers 3a and 3c and the waveguide element 3b, the blocks 11a-11c are welded, and the units are mutually connected. Thus, the blocks are pressurized and welded so that the clearance S between the units formed out of the curved surfaces can be removed, and a compression stress is allowed to remain on an optical axis joint surface, so that the assembly of the module can be finished.

Therefore, bending stress generated on the side surface of the package 7 because of the temperature change at the time of attaching the cover to the package 7 is concentrated on the notch at the upper part of the side surface so as to prevent the influence on the optical parts.
