    • A method of determining whether a metal terminal including a conductor clamping section for clamping a wire is satisfactorily connected to the wire. First, a first metal terminal including a first conductor clamping section for clamping a first wire thereto is provided. Next, one of a dimensional variation and a ratio of a dimensional change of the first conductor clamping section in an axial direction of the first metal terminal, which are caused by clamping the first conductor clamping section, is calculated. Compressibility comparison data is prepared by calculating, from a section of the first conductor clamping section after clamping the first conductor clamping section, compressibility of the first wire with respect to the first conductor clamping section based on the one of the dimensional variation and the ratio of the dimensional change. After preparing the compressibility comparison data, a second metal terminal including a second conductor clamping section for clamping a second wire is provided, and one of a dimensional variation and a ratio of a dimensional change in distance between marks applied along formation reference positions on the second conductor clamping section is calculated and is compared with the compressibility comparison data, thereby determining whether the second metal terminal is satisfactorily connected to the second wire.

    • An improved method of manufacture for wire feed-through devices, wherein a pre-formed tubular seal having a central axial opening for accommodating the wire insulates the wire from the ferrule and provides a tight environmental seal between the ends of the ferrule. The seal is radially compressed and then inserted, either by itself or with the wire, into the central opening of the ferrule so that the seal is maintained in compression between the wire and an inside diameter of the ferrule. In devices where one end of the ferrule opening is enlarged to accommodate one or more filter elements, the seal is positioned in the narrow portion of the ferrule opening, and additionally serves to maintain an inherent concentricity of the wire within the ferrule during installation and attachment of the filter elements, and injection or insertion of encapsulant material into the enlarged portion of the ferrule opening.

    • An applicator die for crimping open loop type terminals to wire leads comprising applicator housing, a plurality of blades and a plurality of housing. An applicator housing is provided which is extended or retracted vertically in response to an applicator force applied thereto. An insulation blade housing with an insulation blade and a core blade housing, with a core blade are movingly disposed inside the applicator housing. Prior to a crimping operation, the applicator housing is retracted and a terminal is moved into position and aligned with the insulation and core blades. A lead wire is also positioned inside the terminal. As the applicator housing descends in response to the applicator force, it pushes the lead wire down into contact with the terminal. A cam lever, acting under the influence of the applicator force, moves a cam vertically, bringing together complementary members of an insulation anvil and a core anvil. As the complementary members of the insulation anvil come together, they pinch the terminal to prevent movement of the terminal during crimping. As the applicator housing descends, the insulation blade housing and core blade housing move from the first position to slidingly embrace the insulation and core anvils. The core blade and insulation blade reach the second or extended position in which they crimp the terminal to a lead wire.

    • A tool for use in joining wire pairs via wire connector assemblies such as those utilized in telecommunications includes a housing and a force applicator connected to a T-bar for applying force to a wire connector assembly. A wire connector holder is provided which receives the wire connector assemblies to be connected along with the wire pairs. A pivotal wire guide is provided on one side of the wire connector holder which allows easy removal of the wires and connectors after the connection is made. An adjustable gauge wire guide is provided on the other side of the wire connector holder which accommodates different gauges of wire. The force applicator includes a removable spacer which adjusts the stroke of the force applicator to accommodate stacks having more than one connector assembly in the wire connector holder.

A sacrificial conductive mandrel is provided having a depression located to correspond with each raised bump contact. A conductive metal pattern is electroformed on selected portions of the sacrificial conductive mandrel, corresponding to a desired electrical lead pattern and the contact pad. A non-conductive polymeric sheet is applied as a base material for the flexible circuit, and laminated to the sacrificial conductive mandrel on the face having the conductive metal pattern thereon. An etchant, capable of removing the sacrificial conductive mandrel without etching or removing metal of the conductive metal pattern, is employed to remove the sacrificial conductive mandrel from the polymeric sheet to which the mandrel and the conductive metal pattern are laminated.
