    • PURPOSE: To attain the stable and assured reproduction of a tracking pilot signal for correct control of a rotary head and to realize the interchangeability among devices, by detecting the maximum value of the reproduced tracking control signal for comparison between the detection output and a reference signal and controlling the amplification factor of a transmission system by the comparison output.
      CONSTITUTION: The pilot signals of adjacent tracks are extracted out of a tape 2 by rotary heads 1A and 1B in a reproduction mode. The peak value of the pilot signal is detected by a peak holding circuit 21 via amplifiers 18A and 18B and a switch circuit 19 and a BPF20. For this detection output, the tracking signals corresponding to the crosstalk are subtracted successively by a subtraction output signal is multiplied by the value obtained by dividing the reference signal of a reference signal generating circuit 65 by the output peak value S

    • PURPOSE:To eliminate the inversion of polarity of a tracking control signal for each track by changing the generating timings of two signals which are not adjacent to each other for the pilot signal to be mixed to the writing order of four different types of pilot signals. CONSTITUTION:An extracted pilot signal is mixed at the 2nd mixing circuit 11 with pilot signals f1-f4 to produce a beat component of a mixed double frequency containing two frequency differences fT1 and fT2 and ¦f3-f1¦ or ¦f4-f2¦. The output signals of wave deecting circuits 20 and 21 are supplied to a comparator 22, and a tracking control signal which varies centering on the reference value and in response to the difference of level is delivered. In this case, the changing amount of the tracking control signal shows the difference of amplitude between differences fT1 and fT2. This shows a tracking shift. Then the tracking control signal undergoes the inversion of polarity through an inverting amplifier 23 and is supplied to a motor control circuit 4.       CONSTITUTION: A tracking pilot signal AT at a prescribed position equidistant from the end part in the lengthwise direction of each track 15H and independently from the recording region of a PCM signal AP which should be recorded at every second track 15H. At the time of reproduction, a recording track is scanned with a rotary head having a scanning width larger than the track width. Then the tracking control is possible for the rotary head by the reproduction outputs of the pilot signals of both adjacent tracks after scanning a track containing no pilot signal recorded at the prescribed position. Furthermore the frequency of the pilot signal can be increased in case the new information is recorded on the recorded information, and the pilot signal can be easily erased since it has a region different from the PCM signal.
