    • The invention relates to an electromechanical brake (10) for motor vehicles which has an electromotive bidirectional longitudinally moveable, selflocking-free spindle (19) for pressing at least one brake pad (12.2) against a rotating friction element (13) in a feed stroke and for releasing the brake pad (12.2) in a return stroke. In addition, the brake (10) has a plate-shaped coupling link (44) situated between the spindle (19) and the brake pad (12.2). The coupling link (44) is in direct contact with the spindle (19) and is supported on the brake pad (12.2) such that it can slide perpendicular in relation to the longitudinal axis of the spindle. As a result, the perpendicular forces which impair the lack of friction of the spindle (19) are significantly avoided. Said forces can occur when the brake pad (12.2) is placed against the friction element (13). The electromechanical brake (10) can be used in motor vehicles, especially passenger cars.
