摘要： In a toroidal continuously variable transmission the amount of traction oil provided to contact areas between the power rollers and the input and output discs is increased as a power to be transmitted is increased. Nozzle holes formed in rockable trunnions of the transmission so that the traction oil ejected from the nozzle holes is sprayed to circumferential positions of inner surfaces of input and output discs that are in contact with peripheral surfaces of power rollers. Transmission efficiency is enhanced while maintaining endurance and reliability without supplying excessive traction oil.

摘要： A toroidal type continuously variable transmission having first and second discs supported around a rotating shaft and receiving power rollers therebetween includes a ball spline having a first spline groove formed in an outer circumferential surface of the rotating shaft, a second spline groove formed in an inner circumferential surface of the first disc, and balls provided between the first spline groove and the second spline groove rollably. An axial position of an end portion of an effective groove portion of the first spline groove is located to correspond to an axial position of an inner end portion of the second spline groove or more closely to the second disc than the axial position thereof when a pressing unit, a preload spring and the first disc are installed around the rotating shaft, pressure oil is not fed to the pressing unit, and the preload spring is not elastically deformed.

摘要： A hydraulic system for a motor vehicle is provided with a pump suction enhancer includes a body section defining a small chamber, a venturi tube passage exposed to the small chamber at an inner end thereof and connected to the suction port of the oil pump, and a nozzle protruding into the small chamber to face the inner end of the venturi tube passage with a space relative to the venturi tube passage in axial alignment with the same. The flow divider divides the operating oil discharged from the oil pump into a return flow to the pump suction enhancer and a supply flow which passes through a power steering device to return to an oil reservoir. The pump suction enhancer may be integrally formed with the oil reservoir or provided as a discrete component separated from the oil reservoir, oil pump and the flow divider.

The controller controls the transmission ratio of the toroidal continuously variable transmission so that rotational speeds of members connected via the clutch apparatus equals with each other, and then disengages the one of the low speed clutch and the high speed clutch after engaging the other, whereby an instance of simultaneously transmitting the power by the two clutches is set during a time period until disconnecting the other clutch after starting to transmit the power by the one clutch.
