摘要： Suture anchoring devices include retention features that will hold the anchoring devices in place and resist displacement when tension is applied to an attached suture in a direction opposite direction of placement. The anchors may be deployed by a needle shaft in a placement direction (which may be straight, curved, or a combination of both), and the needle shaft may have a sharpened or a blunt tip depending on the nature of the anchor. The anchors will find use when a distal end of the suture attached to the anchor is to be left in place in solid tissue so that it cannot be tied off.

One embodiment has a radiation shield of X-ray opaque material that surrounds the C-arm of the fluoroscopy system, the X-ray source and the image intensifier. A padded slot fits around the patient's body. Another embodiment has conical or cylindrical radiation shields that extend between the X-ray source and the patient and between the patient and the image intensifier. The radiation shields have length adjustments and padded ends to fit the device to the patient. The radiation protection device may be motorized to advance and withdraw the radiation shields. A blanket-like radiation shield covers the patient in the area surrounding where the X- ray beam enters the body.

摘要： In one aspect, the present invention provides for transesophageal implantation of cardiac electrodes for pacing and/or defibrillation. The electronic module could be implanted in the abdomen or thorax using a transesophageal, transgastric, thoracoscopic or open surgical approach. In another aspect, the present invention provides for transesophageal delivery of other cardiac therapies including ablation, phototherapy, radiation therapy and implantation or injection of therapeutic substances into the heart. The transesophageal approach takes advantage of the proximity between the esophagus and the chambers of the heart, allowing surgical access to the heart with very low morbidity and risk of complications.

摘要： The present invention provides a method and apparatus for controlling a patient's body temperature and in particular for inducing therapeutic hypothermia. Various embodiments of the system are described. The system includes: a source of breathing gas, which may be in the form of a compressed breathing gas mixture; a heat exchanger or other heating and/or cooling device; and a breathing interface, such as a breathing mask or tracheal tube. Optionally, the system may include additional features, such as a mechanical respirator, a nebulizer for introducing medication into the breathing gas, a body temperature probe and a feedback controller. The system can use air or a specialized breathing gas mixture, such as He/0 2 or SF 6 /0 2 to increase the heat transfer rate. In addition, the system may include an ice particle generator for introducing fine ice particles into the flow of breathing gas to further increase the heat transfer rate.

摘要： Embolic protection elements are integrated with a catheter or access sheath for any catheter. A catheter with an integrated embolic protection element comprises a catheter shaft, an embolic filter slidably mounted on a distal portion of the shaft, a proximal stop for limiting the proximal movement of the embolic filter, and a distal stop for limiting the distal movement of the embolic filter. The filter comprises a porous mesh material defining a collection chamber for captured emboli and has a collapsed and a deployed configuration. The filter may be collapsed by an access sheath used with the catheter. An access sheath may comprise a tubular main body and an embolic filter mounted on the distal portion of the tubular main body. The embolic filter may evert into the central lumen of the sheath or may be constrained on the exterior of the sheath with a larger diameter outer tube.
