    • A heat sink for a handheld device is formed as a one piece chassis for supporting heat-producing circuits inside the device while having heat radiating surfaces outside the device. In another embodiment a battery pack control circuit under microprocessor control allows battery packs having different battery chemistries and characteristics to be interchanged in the same device without switches or adapters. Control of operating modes of the device despite changes in the battery pack including battery chemistry, state of charge, available voltage, or desired operating mode are automatic. The microprocessor measures the battery pack characteristics, using look up tables in a suitable program to adjust the circuit operating modes. The microprocessor also responds to sequential switch contact closures in setting operating modes.

    • The container includes a base portion and a removable lid portion. The base and lid portions, interfit with each other to form a waterproof seal. The portions are easily separable for quick access to the interior of the container. The eyeglasses, sunglasses, contact lenses and various contact lens and eye wear lens solutions are housed in the base portion. The lid portion includes lens cleaning tissues and a mirror. In addition, a handle secured to the base portion is hollow and separable into two pieces to reveal an adjustable string or strap to facilitate the carrying of the container. The strap is placed over the shoulder or around the waist of an individual for carrying the container with the individual. The strap is adjustable so as to lengthen or shorten its length, dependent upon its use.

    • An aquarium filtration system is formed as a filter assembly for mounting on the wall of an aquarium tank, and includes a pair of filter chambers, each having a filter element, mounted side by side along the aquarium wall. An inlet conduit is located in a transverse medial plane of the assembly. A water pump including a rotating impeller is located between the two filter chambers, and pumps water from the aquarium tank, via the inlet conduit, into a corridor which communicates with the two filter chambers. The impeller is constructed with relatively closely spaced radially extending blades, each of which is formed of a circular disk. A base edge, or chord, of each blade is inclined upon a frustoconical surface of a central hub of the impeller. A discharge end of the inlet conduit directs water upon the impeller blades, the latter urging the water outward along a horizontal plane into the corridor. A lower end of the inlet conduit terminates in a housing structured as a cage with plural ports for unrestricted delivery of water from the impeller into the corridor. A stream diverter is located adjacent the impeller for directing water from the impeller in equal quantities to both of the filter chambers. In smaller single filter chamber systems a single fin diverter can be used. This construction reduces noise and turbulence in the filtration system.

    • A hub-spoke patient information service in which a patient's data can be obtained from a network of independent data sources through a centralized service. The hub of the service stores patient identification information and the spokes store the patient's clinical data. In a preferred embodiment, the spokes are independent sources (e.g. each spoke is generally unrelated to other spokes) and include hospitals, doctor offices, clinics, insurance companies, or other entities that store or track clinical data. Preferably, the data sources use a first authentication to properly identify or authentic the service. Once access is granted, the spoke sources are queried for the patient's data. In response, each data source provides the type of patient data available from the source. The user is shown the types of data available without generally showing the actual data. The user can then select the specific patient data to retrieve from the spoke sources.
