    • A surface acoustic wave device includes a piezoelectric substrate, first and second input transducers formed on the substrate and adapted for respectively generating surface acoustic waves corresponding to input signals, the first and second input transducers each having a shape to focus the surface acoustic waves generated thereby, an output transducer formed between the first and second input transducers on the substrate and adapted for obtaining a convolution -signal of the surface acoustic waves generated by the first and second input transducers, and conductive films, one formed between the first input transducer and the output transducer and another between the second input transducer and the output transducer on the substrate. A communication system includes a transmitter for transmitting a signal modulated according to information, a circuit for receiving the modulated signal transmitted from the transmitter, a circuit for generating a reference signal, a surface acoustic wave device, as described above, for outputting a convolution signal of the modulated signal and the reference signal, and a demodulating circuit for restoring the information, using the convolution signal output from the surface acoustic wave device.

    • The present invention provides a recording apparatus wherein recording is performed by reciprocably shifting a carriage on which a recording head is mounted by means of a stepping motor and which comprises a rotational position detection device for detecting a rotational position of a rotor of the stepping motor, and a control unit for performing a closed loop control for the change-over timing of excitation currents to coils of the stepping motor and for the driving speed of the stepping motor, on the basis of the detection signal from the rotational position detection device, and judges whether the initial drive of the stepping motor and the change-over timing are normal, through the control unit.

    • In an electronic watch having a stepping motor, a battery voltage detecting circuit, a rotation detecting circuit for indicating rotation or non-rotation of the stepping motor and a motor driving power control circuit for applying a higher power drive pulse to the motor than a normal drive pulse upon detection of non-rotation, the operation of the rotation detecting circuit is inhibited upon indication of a low battery voltage condition and the motor is driven continuously with the higher power drive pulses for the extent of the battery low voltage condition. In this way, the electronic watch can be operated stably when the battery is at the end of its life and operated with lower power consumption during the time when the battery is operated at full voltage.
