    • Disclosed is a labyrinth seal assembly for sealing an annular gap defined between a bore of a housing and an outer surface of a cylindrical shaft, wherein the housing and shaft are relatively movable. The seal assembly includes radially inner and radially outer shield rings. The radially inner shield ring has an inner surface which is adapted and configured for support by the shaft. The radially outer shield ring is partially disposed within the sealing channel of the inner shield ring. The outer shield ring includes a casing member, foam seal elements, and a shield element retainer. The foam seal elements depend radially inward into the sealing channel so as to form a circuitous sealing labyrinth therein. The seal elements are formed preferably from polyurethane. A highly viscous fluid is disposed within the circuitous sealing labyrinth.

    • A seal system is provided for a bearing. The bearing includes a housing having two sides and a bearing element disposed within the housing. The bearing element is disposed to facilitate motion of a rotating shaft. The seal system includes a seal carrier which is adapted to be mounted on the bearing housing. The seal carrier has a groove in an inner periphery wherein a seal is disposed within the seal carrier groove. The seal has a soft flexible lip which contacts the rotating shaft. A groove is formed in an outer periphery of the seal for receiving a retaining device. The seal and the seal carrier are mountable on either side of the bearing even when the two sides experience dissimilar environments such as vacuum on one side and a liquid spray on the other. The seal and/or the seal carrier may be split for facilitating simpler in-field installation.

    • A rotating connection device forming a seal between an inner element (1) and an outer element (14) of larger diameter than the inner element, these two elements being co-axial, cylindrically symmetric and rotating in relation to one another. It comprises a shell (16) placed in the annular space between the two elements, at least a first ring-type seal (19) secured to the shell, placed between the latter and inner element (1), at least a second ring-type seal (23) placed between two opposite walls (22, 18) of shell (16) and of outer element (14), both perpendicular to the axis of rotation, and means (24-26) for pressing the two walls against one another by means of the ring-type seal with an adjustable application force. This connection device allows substantial motions between the two elements, radial as well as longitudinal. The device can be used: for example for connecting a pipe linking an outer device and the central part of the rotating ring gear of a heat exchange and/or incineration system.

    • A rocket engine shaft seal which prevents leakage from escaping from the pump to the turbine along the shaft 1. The seal has a bellows spring 8 for pushing the floating ring seal 2 into contact with the mating ring 4 when the rocket engine is off, thus sealing the liquid in the pump section more reliably. When the engine is on, the pressure of the fuel will overcome the force of the bellows spring 8, moving the floating ring seal 2 away from contact with the mating ring 4, so as to save wear on the face contact portion 5 of the floating ring seal and preserve a good seal when the engine is off. The floating ring seal 2 has an inner diameter 11 for forming a seal with the shaft 1. The shaft 1 may have a labyrinth on it for forming a labyrinth seal with the floating ring seal 2, or with the floating ring seal and the bellows adapter's arm portion 13 for forming a longer labyrinth seal.

    • The choke arrangement comprises an elastic choke ring which consists of a single piece with a gap formed by a parting joint. The choke arrangement: further comprises a support ring which is arranged directly adjacent to the choke ring in the axial direction, with the support ring serving, among other things to cover over the gap of the choke ring. An advantage of the choke arrangement with an elastically resilient choke ring is to be seen wherein the choke ring reacts to dynamic pressure changes and thereupon changes its sealing properties. A peak in pressure produces an increased difference in pressure at the choke arrangement, whereby the elastic choke ring is pressed against the sliding surface of a piston rod and effects an increased sealing action, so that the pressure peak cannot propagate to a sealing ring placed after the choke arrangement. The choke arrangement thus behaves analogously to a frequency selective filter known from electrical engineering in that high-frequency pressure changes are sealed off, whereas static or slowly varying pressure components are not sealed off.
