    • A shock absorber apparatus having a first cylinder defining a first internal bore having an internal diameter, and closed by a first end wall, and further closed by an opposite second end wall, and further comprising a first port connected in fluid transmission relation to the first internal bore. The shock absorber also includes a rod having a first end and an opposite second end, and wherein the rod movably extends into the first internal bore through an aperture formed in the first end wall so that the second end of the rod is positioned concentrically within the first internal bore, so that the first end of the rod is positioned outside the first internal bore. A first piston is fixedly attached to the rod at an intermediate position located between the first and the second end of the rod, and positioned concentrically within the first cylinder. A second cylinder defines a second internal bore closed by a first end wall and an opposite second end wall, and further comprising a second port connected in fluid transmission relation to the second internal bore and further includes a response adjustment mechanism located adjacent to the second cylinder, and connected in fluid transmission relation between the first cylinder port and the second cylinder port, and wherein the response adjustment mechanism is configured to provide three or more adjustments for tuning the response of the shock absorber system. The response adjustment mechanism includes a first adjustment valve having a longitudinal axis, and a second adjustment valve comprising an internal bore, and positioned concentrically along the longitudinal axis, and configured to telescopingly receive the first adjustment valve in the internal bore of the second adjustment valve so that the second adjustment valve is positioned in coaxial relation with the first adjustment valve, and a third adjustment valve further comprising an internal bore, and positioned concentrically along the longitudinal axis, and configured to telescopingly receive the second adjustment valve in the internal bore of the third adjustment valve so that the third adjustment valve is positioned in coaxial relation with the second adjustment valve. The shock absorber can also include a damping valve assembly which includes a step washer positioned concentrically around the rod in stacking relation, and positioned proximate to the piston, and a pressure plate positioned concentrically around the step washer in sliding relation, and a plate spring positioned concentrically around the rod so that the plate spring is bourne by the step washer and a portion of the plate spring is held in tension by the pressure plate.

    • The invention relates to a shock absorber (1) comprising a damping cylinder (2) filled with a damping medium and divided into a first and a second damping chamber (C1, C2) by a main piston assembly made up of a first (4) and a second main piston (5). The main pistons, having continuous ducts (9, 10; 13, 14) which are delimited in a direction of flow by first and second flow limiters (11, 12; 15, 16), are mounted on a piston rod (3). The piston rod (3) has an axially extending and continuous cavity (7), through which damping medium is able to flow between a pressurized chamber (6a) of a pressurization reservoir (6) and the respective damping chamber (C1/C2). The damping medium flows via an interspace (8), delimited by the first and the second main piston (4, 5), in the main piston assembly, out into the respective damping chamber (C1/C2) via pressurization ducts (9, 10) delimited by return and compression flow limiters (11, 12). The invention is characterised in that the first and/or the second check valve (11, 12) is open in the initial part of the return or compression stroke (R2, R1), to enable a flow between the respective damping chamber (C1, C2) and the interspace (8) during the first part of the stroke (R2, R1). By enabling an initial flow between the damping chambers, desirable damping properties which, for example, result in a rapid rebound or spring back of the wheel are obtained.
