    • The invention pertains to a device for gathering sheets (3) with feeder stations (15) that are arranged in a row and consist of a magazine (20) for respectively accommodating a stack (4) of identical sheets, a separating device (50) that tilts an exposed edge region (3b) of the respective bottom sheet away from the stack (4) and a transport device (30) that withdraws the sheet from the stack parallel to the longitudinal direction of the edge region, and with a collecting conveyor (10) that features pushers (13) for the gathered stacks (2). In order to achieve a high processing speed, the invention proposes that the separating device (50) features at least one suction element (51) for tilting away at least one corner of the sheet (3), and that the transport device for withdrawing the sheet (3) is formed by a traction means conveyor (30) with individually actuated grippers (32) that are anchored on revolving traction means (31) within certain distances from one another and at least two of which take hold of the exposed edge region (3b), wherein the traction means conveyor (30) is inclined toward the collecting conveyor (10) in order to deposit the withdrawn sheet (3) on the stack (2) being formed directly in front of the pusher (13) of the collecting conveyor (10). The invention makes it possible to reliably decollate head-folded signatures if the suction element (51) is arranged on the upstream corner of the stack (4).

    • Systems and methods for handling sheet material, for example, signatures or inserts, are provided. Individual systems and methods for loading and jogging stacks of sheet material are combined with systems and methods for transferring sheet material whereby the mishandling or misfeeding of sheet material is minimized or reduced. The loading and jogging aspects are characterized by pivotally mounted receptacles or bins that facilitate introducing sheet material to a conveyor. The transferring aspects include automated transfer devices adapted to grip and position stacks of sheet material, for example, into a hopper feeding a disk feeder. These automated systems and their combination minimizes or prevents the mishandling of sheet material whereby the processing of sheet material is enhanced compared to conventional systems and methods.

    • The present invention provides a transport mechanism, and method, for transporting plastic cards, such as credit cards, identification cards, and the like, past a printing apparatus within a printer. The transport mechanism includes a lifting and rotating station for displacing the card from a first level to a second level, as well as rotating the card. The second level is located above the top of the printing apparatus. A card translating station is disposed at the second level, generally above the printing apparatus, and has a receiving end disposed adjacent the lifting and rotating station for receiving the card therefrom, as well as an output end. The translating station includes means for moving the card from the receiving end to the output end thereof along a direction that is generally perpendicular to the direction of movement of the lifting and rotating station. A card lowering station is disposed adjacent the output end of the translating station, on the other side of the printing apparatus, for receiving the card from the output end and displacing the card from the second level to a third level that is generally equal to the first level.

Die erfindungsgemäße Vorrichtung ermöglicht die zuverlässige Vereinzelung von kopfgefalzten Falzbogen, wenn das Saugelement (51) an der stromaufwärts liegenden Ecke des Stapels (4) angeordnet ist.
