    • In a semiconductor laser composed of a sequence of layers forming a heterostructure diode and including a substantially homogeneously doped layer defining a laser active zone having a laser radiation exit face perpendicular to the layers, the current flowing in the forward direction of the diode is constricted to a narrow, strip-shaped region in the laser active zone by providing a monocrystalline layer located in the layer sequence to be spaced from the active zone by at least one intervening, doped semiconductor layer, providing the surface of the monocrystalline layer directed away from the active zone with a trough-shaped recess extending essentially perpendicularly to said radiation exit face, and diffusing, via the surface provided with the recess, and toward the active zone, doping material which produces a doped region of same conductivity type as the intervening, doped layer, the doped region being delimited by a diffusion front substantially parallel, and corresponding in contour, to the surface provided with said recess, and located to provide a localized semiconductor region of a single conductivity type in the area below the recess and between the recess and said active zone, and semiconductive regions of respectively opposite conductivity types separated by the diffusion front in areas adjacent the localized region.

    • A laminated pack comprises a plurality of uniform, closely adjacent superposed sheets and a mechanical interconnection for said sheets holding them together which comprises the pinching of a portion of the sheets themselves against one another. The interconnection is effected by slitting the sheets in areas to form teeth on each side of a hole formed through the sheet or along an edge of the sheet and by subsequently deflecting the teeth in a stacked set of sheets so that adjacent ones of the teeth move into recesses vacated by similarly deflected teeth of the next adjacent sheet and fit into the area with a pinching interengagement. The pack is formed by feeding prestamped sheets along a feed path and separating and stacking individual sheets therefrom in a direction perpendicular to the advance direction of the strip and also pinching the sheet so that teeth formations of superposed sheets bear into the next adjacent sheet to hold them together. The apparatus advantageously includes a stamping tool designed as a combined tool and stacking mechanism which is mounted in a recess of a die plate which comprises two feed rollers having axes which are parallel to each other into the direction of a strip containing the prestamped sheets. The mechanism includes a plurality of contacting projections and a punching mechanism mounted above the recess separating the prestamped sheets from the fed strip and a punch which acts on teeth formations of the sheets to cause their pinching interengagement.

    • The transmitter has a carrier control and includes an exciter for supplying the carrier voltage to a modulation stage, usually the final RF-power amplifier of a broadcast transmitter, with the modulation voltage having a controlled dc content. The modulation voltage is amplified in a modulation amplifier and the amplified modulation voltage is supplied to the modulation stage. The modulation amplifier includes a switching amplifier producing pulse duration modulated pulses, a modulation voltage controlled pulse duration modulator preceding the switching amplifier and a filter section following the switching amplifier. An adder element is connected in advance of the modulation amplifier, specifically in advance of the modulation voltage-controlled pulse duration modulator. The applied modulation voltage is supplied to a rectifier followed by a filter section and the filter section is connected to a control element and supplies thereto a variable direct voltage as a volume-dependent control magnitude which contains also very low frequency components in accordance with the volume of the modulation voltage. The output of the control element is supplied to the adder element for combining with the modulation voltages supplied to the modulation amplifier to change the pulse duty factor of the output pulses of the switching amplifier as required for carrier control of the transmitter. The volume control magnitude supplied from the control element can be additionally superposed by a fixed direct voltage to establish the average pulse length of the output pulses of the pulse duration modulator and thus to establish the average direct voltage value of the filter section of the modulation amplifier and the average operating point of the modulation stage.
