    • A method is provided for regulating a charge air pressure of an internal combustion engine of a vehicle having an exhaust gas supercharger, a fresh gas supply device, a vehicle air system having an air treatment system and a compressor chargeable by the exhaust gas supercharger, and an engine controller. The method detects a torque requirement on the internal combustion engine; determines a current charge air pressure and a current pressure of the vehicle air system; compares the current charge air pressure to a target charge air pressure corresponding to the torque requirement and compares the determined current pressure of the vehicle air system to a target operating pressure of the vehicle air system, and regulates the charge air pressure by suppressing a supply of compressed air, supplied by the exhaust gas supercharger, to the compressor when the determined current charge air pressure is less than the corresponding target charge air pressure and the current pressure of the vehicle air system is greater than or equal to the target operating pressure of the vehicle air system.

    • A drive train for a compressor and a hydraulic pump of a motor vehicle, and a method of use are described. The system includes a hydraulic power steering system, an electric superimposed steering system for providing steering assistance, and a motor vehicle drive motor with a common output shaft for driving the compressor and the hydraulic pump. Also provided are means for reducing the power which is supplied to the compressor and to the hydraulic pump via the output shaft, when demands made of the compressor and of the steering assistance system permit reduced power operation. The power which is supplied to the compressor and to the hydraulic pump via the output shaft may be reduced substantially to zero when operation of the compressor is unnecessary and the electric superimposed steering system is sufficient to provide alone the steering assistance.
