    • The present invention relates to an apparatus and a method of content retrieval and a program which facilitate recognizing content details of a moving image by displaying a retrieval result for each of a plurality of images.A metadata extracting unit 22 extracts metadata such as information of a representative image from content which is supplied from a content input unit 21 and stores the metadata in a metadata database 24. An image feature quantity extracting unit 23 extracts image feature quantity from content and stores the image feature quantity in an image feature quantity database 25 while extracting image feature quantity from a retrieval image as well. A retrieving unit 27 compares the image feature quantity of the retrieval image with the image feature quantity stored in the image feature quantity database 25 and specifies a still image which is similar to the retrieval image. An output unit 28 reads metadata of the content, generates display data to be necessary for performing timeline displaying, and further, generates display data for displaying a retrieval result on a timeline.

    • A technique for recording data onto a hologram recording medium using spatial light phase modulation corresponding to the recording data, and a technique for reproducing recorded data by properly reading information on phases recorded on a hologram recording medium. A signal beam having a phase modulation pattern corresponding to recording data and a reference beam having a specific phase modulation pattern are applied to the recording medium. Thus, recording data can be recorded onto the hologram recording medium using phase information. In addition, at the time of reproduction, a reference beam and a direct current (DC) beam, whose phase difference with respect to the reference beam is π/2, are applied to the hologram recording medium. By reading the reproduction beam to which the DC beam is added, recorded information on phases can be correctly read, and recorded data can be reproduced in accordance with the phase information.

    • A data recording apparatus of the present invention includes a head that records data signals by magnetizing a magnetic tape 10 and a recording control portion that controls the recording operation by causing recording current to flow to the head. The recording control portion controls the operation of the head, so that in the magnetic tape 10, which is direct current demagnetized continuously in the longitudinal direction, a magnetic field is formed intermittently in an opposite direction to the magnetization direction of the direct current demagnetization.
