Even if the material of the wire seal part is deformed during the insertion operation of the electric wires, the insertion operation of the electric wires can be smoothly carried out to the last wire because the clearance absorbs the deformation of the entire wire seal part.

    • A lever 22 is pivotally mounted on bosses 29 formed on a connector 21, and the connector 21 is fitted into a mating connector 23 by pivotally moving the lever 22 about the bosses 29. The connector 21 is formed by a plurality of division connectors 24, 25 and 26, and a plurality of kinds of division connectors may be substituted for the division connectors 25 and 26. Therefore, a plurality of kinds of connectors 21, having the same length, can be formed. Any of the plurality of kinds of connectors 21 can be fitted into the mating connector 23 by one lever 22, and the lever 22 can be of the common use-type.

    • A lever-type connector (10) has a frame-shaped holder (11) for accommodating auxiliary connectors (24). A lever (40) is mounted on the holder (11) and is adapted to connect the lever-type connector (10) and a male connector (50) by cam action effected as the lever (40) is rotated. The lever (40) extends along only one wall surface of the holder (11). Thus, wires (27) and the lever (40) are unlikely to interfere with each other. Further, the lever (40) is accommodated in a recess (16) of the holder (11) and is held from opposite sides along a direction of the rotational axis. Thus, the lever (40) will not deform along the direction of the rotational axis and will not detach from the holder (11).

    • A lever-type connector assembly has mating female and male connectors (10, 50). The female connector (10) has a lever (40) with a cam plate (41) and a resilient lock (46) that is deformable within the plane of the cam plate (41). The resilient lock (46) engages a receiving portion (33A) on the female connector (10) for holding the lever (40) at an initial position. The connector (50) has an unlocking rib (55) that deforms the resilient lock (46) out of engagement with the receiving portion (33A). As a result, the lever (40) can rotate for connecting the connectors (10, 50). Since the resilient lock (46) deforms in the plane of the cam plate (41), there is no need to provide space for deformation of the resilient lock (46) along a thickness direction of the cam plate (41).

    • The present invention aims to prevent forcing of pins when a female connector is obliquely inserted into a shunt. A shunt fits into a cylindrical socket concavely formed in an external face of a housing of an airbag inflator and short-circuits of a pair of contact pins of a squib of the inflator. These pins rise at the center of the socket from the bottom to a point near to the opening. The shunt includes an annular wall having a fitting hole into which the pins enter from the bottom side of the center thereof and into which a female connector fits from the top side, and a short-circuit piece provided on the annular wall, which will contact both of the pins when the shunt is fitted into the socket, and will be pushed to move away from the pins when the female connector is fitted into the fitting hole. To prevent forcing or bending of the pins if the female connector is improperly obliquely inserted into the fitting hole of the shunt, the height of the annular wall is not less than the sum of the depth of insertion of the female connector into the fitting hole in the axial direction of the pins when the female connector is inserted obliquely plus the height of the pins from the bottom of the socket.
