    • A chain saw brake device that can instantly halt the rotation of a cutting chain when a motor drive switch is turned off. The chain saw brake device includes a brake band wound around a brake drum, such that by operating a hand guard and pulling the forward end of the brake band, the brake band is tightened around the brake drum, thereby stopping the cutting chain. The rear end of the brake band is fixed to a bent rod, and the bent rod is urged rearwardly by a coil spring when the drive switch is turned off, causing the brake band to tighten around the brake drum. By activating a trigger lever, the movable member, engaged with the trigger lever, is moved forwards, thereby pushing forwards the bent rod, and loosening the brake band.

    • A gear housing is arranged at or by the center of a main body housing of a chain saw and a handle housing extends backward therefrom. A motor housing is formed on the left side of the gear housing perpendicularly. A support member and a cover are attached on the right side of the gear housing. A guide bar extends forward from the main body housing and the guide bar retrains an endless saw chain therearound. The handle housing includes a trigger beside a connecting portion between the handle housing and the gear housing. A battery is disposed in a detachable manner at a rear end of the handle housing. The center of gravity of the chain saw is located at or by the trigger of the handle housing.

    • A circuit disconnection element that can open or short-circuit between a power storage element and a step-up/step-down bidirectional chopper circuit is provided in a power storage system, thereby preventing a self-discharge state in a process of charging.     • A circuit switching element is provided that switches a step-up/step-down bidirectional chopper circuit, arranged between a DC bus and a power storage element, to a first chopper circuit or to a second chopper circuit, whose step-up and step-down characteristics are in a complementary relation. The first and second chopper circuits are used together at a time of charge and discharge. Accordingly, an AC motor drive device having mounted therein a power storage system is obtained, in which the power storage system can perform charge and discharge to and from the power storage element, regardless of a bus voltage and can increase energy use efficiency.
