    • A wheel-activated vehicle restraint system including a support structure disposed beside the path of the vehicle approaching the dock, and including a guide member extending away from the dock face, and an elevated supporting member. A trigger assembly is operatively connected to the guide member, and initially engages the wheel of the vehicle as it rolls toward the dock. A locking arm operatively engages the supporting member to move from a stored position to a chocking position on the wheel as the wheel engages the trigger and moves it toward the dock. A trolley assembly operatively connects the trigger assembly and the locking arm, the trolley assembly and the locking arm being connected at a connection point. The trigger assembly is selectively positionable relative to the connection point in response to the dimensions of the wheel, and the locking arm engages a bottom portion of the wheel, and moves along the peripheral surface of the wheel to a chocking position as the wheel continues to push the trigger assembly toward the dock.

    • A device for restraining a truck from movement during the loading and unloading thereof while the truck is parked in a driveway in a loading dock. The truck restraining device has a lock assembly comprising a base and a locking arm pivotally mounted to the base for rotating between retracted and extended positions. In the retracted position, the locking arm is substantially horizontal for permitting the truck to drive over the restraining device whereas, in the extended position, the locking arm extends upwardly for engaging the truck wheels for restraining movement of the truck.

    • Two embodiments of a slope extension are disclosed herein for use with a vehicle restraint. In each embodiment, the vehicle restraint is adapted to releasably secure a parked trailer or other vehicle to an adjacent structure, such as a loading dock, and includes a carriage assembly which is adjustably mounted in proximity to the adjacent structure for movement relative to a roadway, and a restraining member which is operatively attached to the carriage assembly. In operation, each embodiment of the inventive slope extension interacts with the carriage assembly to avoid a "dead lock" condition wherein the carriage assembly is obstructed from moving downwardly toward the roadway.

    • A vehicle-activated support assembly control system is provided which comprises a sensor assembly which senses the position of the vehicle relative to the dock leveler and an actuation assembly which is operatively connected to the support assembly so as to actuate or maintain the support assembly in a retracted position in response to the position of the vehicle. The actuation assembly is adapted to automatically position the support assembly between (1) a retracted or non-supporting position when the vehicle is in close proximity to the loading dock and (2) an active supporting position when the vehicle is greater than a predetermined distance from the loading dock. The control assembly is adapted to activate the support assembly and move the support assembly to the active supporting position as the vehicle pulls away from the dock leveler but before the lip loses contact with the vehicle. The control system deactivates the support assembly when the lip is safely supported on the vehicle bed or is within a predetermined distance in which the lip is capable of engaging the vehicle bed. The control system permits the support assembly to be in the active supporting position when the lip is extended but not safely supported by the vehicle bed.

    • A mechanical restraint is provided for use in securing a parked vehicle to a stationary structure, such as a loading dock, while the vehicle is being loaded or unloaded. The restraint includes a first member fixedly mounted on the front wall of the loading dock, and a second member mounted on the first member for movement in a vertical plane and for hinged movement about a vertical axis between operative and inoperative modes. The second member is provided with an elongated first section which is in sliding engagement with the first member. The second member, when in a raised position is adapted to turn about the longitudinal axis of the first section which is coaxial with the hinge axis of the second member. The second member is provided with an elongated second section which projects angularly from the upper end portion of the first section. The second section includes a distal end portion provided with a depending projection. When the second member is in the operative mode, the distal end portion is adapted to overlie and interlock with a transverse bar, such as an ICC bar, which depends from the rear portion of the parked vehicle. The second section of the second member includes a safety element which effects separation of the first and second members only when an external pulling force above a predetermined amount is exerted on the distal end portion of the second section.

    • A hydraulic system is provided for a loading dock installation wherein the latter has a plurality of independently operable dock levelers arranged in spaced relation along the loading dock. Each leveler includes a hingedly mounted deck member or ramp and a power unit for actuating the deck member to a predetermined upwardly inclined position from a horizontal cross-traffic position. The hydraulic system is provided with a common source of pressurized hydraulic fluid which is remotely disposed relative to the dock levelers. A primary line extends from the common source to each leveler. An adjustable control valve is provided for each leveler and includes a first port which is adapted to communicate with the primary line; a second port which is adapted to communicate with the power unit, and a third port which is adapted to communicate with a drain line. Each control valve is adapted to normally assume a first position of adjustment wherein the second and third ports are interconnected and the first port is blocked. When the control valve is adjusted to a second position of adjustment the first and second ports are interconnected and the third port is blocked thereby causing the deck member to be actuated to the predetermined upwardly inclined position.

    • An assembly is provided for weather-sealing an elongated joint formed between a first member and a second member when said members are disposed at a predetermined relative position. The assembly includes an elongated piece having elongated interconnected first and second sections extending angularly relative to one another. The piece is removably carried by an elongated bracket fixedly secured to a side of one of the members defining the joint. The bracket is provided with an inner wall section, an outer wall section in spaced substantially face-to-face relation with the inner wall section, and a bridge section interconnecting a pair of corresponding elongated edges of the wall sections. The wall and bridge sections coact to form an elongated pocket having a first opening at one end. Corresponding second elongated edge portions of the inner and outer wall sections are disposed in spaced relation and define an elongated second opening having an end terminating at the first opening. The elongated first section is disposed within the bracket pocket and is inserted therein and removed therefrom only upon endwise movement of the first section through the first opening. When the first section is accommodated within the bracket pocket, it is substantially impassable with respect to the bracket second opening. The second section is adapted to span the joint when the members are disposed in the predetermined relative position and is in resilient sealing engagement with the side of the other member defining the joint.
