    • A vehicle-activated support assembly control system is provided which comprises a sensor assembly which senses the position of the vehicle relative to the dock leveler and an actuation assembly which is operatively connected to the support assembly so as to actuate or maintain the support assembly in a retracted position in response to the position of the vehicle. The actuation assembly is adapted to automatically position the support assembly between (1) a retracted or non-supporting position when the vehicle is in close proximity to the loading dock and (2) an active supporting position when the vehicle is greater than a predetermined distance from the loading dock. The control assembly is adapted to activate the support assembly and move the support assembly to the active supporting position as the vehicle pulls away from the dock leveler but before the lip loses contact with the vehicle. The control system deactivates the support assembly when the lip is safely supported on the vehicle bed or is within a predetermined distance in which the lip is capable of engaging the vehicle bed. The control system permits the support assembly to be in the active supporting position when the lip is extended but not safely supported by the vehicle bed.

    • A recycling control system for a dock leveler including a pivotally mounted deck. There is a powered lifting mechanism for raising the deck and a lip pivotally mounted to the deck for movement between pendant and extended positions. The control assembly includes a lip-position member couplable to the lip for movement therewith such that the position of the lip-position member is indicative of lip position. There is a switch couplable to the lifter and operable to a first condition wherein power is provided to the lifter and operable to a second condition wherein power is not provided to the lifter. There is an actuator disposed on the lip-position member for movement relative thereto between at least a first position where the actuator operates the switch to the first condition, and a second position where the switch can be operated to the second condition. The actuator is disposed to move between the first and second positions as the lip moves toward the pendant position.

    • A hydraulic system is provided for a loading dock installation wherein the latter has a plurality of independently operable dock levelers arranged in spaced relation along the loading dock. Each leveler includes a hingedly mounted deck member or ramp and a power unit for actuating the deck member to a predetermined upwardly inclined position from a horizontal cross-traffic position. The hydraulic system is provided with a common source of pressurized hydraulic fluid which is remotely disposed relative to the dock levelers. A primary line extends from the common source to each leveler. An adjustable control valve is provided for each leveler and includes a first port which is adapted to communicate with the primary line; a second port which is adapted to communicate with the power unit, and a third port which is adapted to communicate with a drain line. Each control valve is adapted to normally assume a first position of adjustment wherein the second and third ports are interconnected and the first port is blocked. When the control valve is adjusted to a second position of adjustment the first and second ports are interconnected and the third port is blocked thereby causing the deck member to be actuated to the predetermined upwardly inclined position.

    • A device is provided for releasably securing a parked vehicle to an adjacent structure. The device includes a carriage first section affixed to the adjacent structure and a vertically adjustable carriage second section mounted on the first section and biased to assume a predetermined elevated position. The second section moves downwardly from the elevated position upon a predetermined external force being exerted thereon. A first element is mounted on the carriage second section for relative movement between an operative vehicle-locking mode and an inoperative vehicle-release mode. A second element is adjustably mounted on and substantially concealed by the carriage second section and coacts therewith and the first element to retain the latter in an operative mode. A manually actuated third element is carried on the carriage second section and is movable independently thereof to effect movement of the first element from the inoperative mode to the operative mode. The third element normally assumes a substantially concealed position within the carriage second section. A manually actuated fourth element is adjustably mounted on the carriage second section and is engageable with the second element to effect movement of the latter to a non-retaining position with respect to the first element, when the fourth element is manually activated in one relative direction.

    • A leveler assembly is provided for use within a pit formed in the platform surface of a loading dock. The pit is of conventional construction and includes a recessed horizontal base surface, upright side and rear walls and an open front. The assembly includes a stationary frame mounted within the pit and having an upright section disposed adjacent the pit rear wall and a forwardly extending section mounted on the pit base surface; the latter section effects segregation of the base surface into large contiguous areas, on which debris accumulates, each area being defined in part by the pit open front. A deck member is provided having a rear edge portion thereof hingedly connected to the upright frame section. The deck member, when not in use, normally assumes a neutral position whereby the exposed surface thereof is coplanar with the dock platform surface so as to allow cross-traffic to safely pass thereover. When the deck member assumes a predetermined raised position, the pit base surface areas are accessible and the accumulated debris removable therefrom through the pit open front.

    • A vehicle restraint is provided for releasably securing a parked vehicle to an adjacent structure. The vehicle restraint includes a carriage assembly which is adjustably vertically mounted to the adjacent structure and a restraining member which is pivotably attached to the carriage assembly for rotational movement between a stored (or vehicle-release) position, wherein the restraining member is enclosed within the carriage assembly, and an operative (or vehicle-locking) position, wherein a portion of the restraining member projects outwardly and upwardly from the carriage assembly. The vehicle restraint also includes a locking mechanism for preventing rotation of the restraining member into the stored position when an external force or torque, in a direction toward the stored position, is exerted on the distal end of the restraining member. The locking mechanism includes a first locking member which is attached to the restraining member, and a second locking member which is attached to the carriage assembly and is positioned for selective engagement by the first locking member when the restraining member is rotated between the operative and stored positions. In use, engagement between the first and second locking members prevents rotation of the restraining member into the stored position when the external force or torque is exerted on the distal end of the restraining member.
