    • The support has two or more areas(11,12,13,14;16,17) made from different plastic materials molded together in one injection molding tool. Material areas(11,12,13,14;16,17) are formed in a molding tool cavity and as they solidify simultaneously adjacent materials bond to each other at their interfaces. Materials for the different areas have different physical properties and react in different ways to externally applied forces. Plastics used may differ with regard to their type and/or reinforcing filler content in the plastic. Some material areas may include reinforcing fillers to give much higher strength while others contain none and have low strength. Areas without reinforcing fillers may be thinner than areas with filler. Interfaces between individual materials may form deliberate weak lines in a component. Different material areas may extend along the door module plane(E) or in a direction normal to the latter plane with material layers lying one on top of another. Areas of higher strength(11-14) may include attachment points(10) for connecting the door module support onto a vehicle door or act as fastening points for functional components housed within a vehicle door. Functional components include guide rails for a window riser, a lock assembly, internal door handle, loudspeaker or air bag module. Lower strength material areas(16,17) may incorporate integral fasteners, such as studs or clips for attaching components onto a door. Lower strength areas may also: a) form sections which deform on impact; b) act as a film barrier separating wet and dry areas; c) behave as a flexible bending zone. An independent claim is included for a tool for manufacturing a door module support which comprises an injection molding or similar tool with several injection points(A1,A2,A3,A6,A7) for simultaneous injection of different plastic materials into the tool cavity.
