    • An original scanning device can set a brake operation starting timing in a scanner backward movement to a predetermined timing, even if a scanning distance of the device is determined at any distance. To do so, a copy machine starts braking the scanning device when a sensor detects that the scanning device backwardly moved to a predetermined position. In this machine, a distance to be scanned by the scanning device is determined based on an original size or a copy magnification, it is judged whether or not a distance between a turn position of the scanning device and the predetermined position according to the determined distance to be scanned is a distance by which the scanning device can reach a predetermined speed in its backward movement, the scanning device is backwardly moved after forwardly moving it to a position according to the determined distance to be scanned in case of affirmative judgment, and the scanning device is backwardly moved after forwardly moving it to a position according to the distance by which the scanning device can reach the predetermined speed in its backward movement in case of negative judgment.

    • To increase the efficiency of graphic data print process in a printer, graphic print data such as diagrams and images are compressed in a personal computer according to a special compression/coding format specific of the printer to be used so that the resultant compressed graphic print data can be developed into dot image data in the printer. The resultant compressed graphic print data is transmitted to the printer and is temporarily stored in reception data buffer of the printer. The compressed graphic print data stored in the reception data buffer is developed into dot image print data. Printing is performed on a print sheet by a printing mechanism according to the developed dot image print data.

    • On the basis of a received print data, a control code in the print data is analyzed to determine the print control program of a suitable command system. The print data is subjected to a processing using the print control program. The processed data is converted to dot pattern data that is usable by print control programs of different kinds of command systems and stored in a non-volatile memory. Thereafter, the stored dot pattern data is printed. Through this operation, in a printing apparatus having plural print control programs of different command systems, not only received print data, but also print data stored in the non-volatile memory can be printed using a suitable print control program.

    • A polyimide solution is prepared by a process wherein a tetracarboxylic acid ingredient containing at least about 80% by mole of 3,3',4,4'-biphenyltetracarboxylic acid or its functional derivative and an aromatic diamine ingredient containing at least about 50% by mole of 4,4'-diaminodiphenyl ether are polymerized at from about 100.degree. to 300.degree. C. in phenol or a halogenated phenolic compound; the amount of the acid and diamine ingredients being approximately equimolar to each other; whereby polymerization of the tetracarboxylic acid ingredient and the aromatic diamine ingredient is effected while being accompanied by imidation. Preferably, the polymerization accompanied by imidation is effected in a manner such that at least a second half of the polymerization is carried out in a closed reaction system. The resulting polyimide solution is suitable for making therefrom shaped articles, such as films, possessing excellent mechanical properties.
