    • Document authentication is accomplished by acquiring document image data, generating a set of features of the document, and generating an assist channel that includes information on how to generate the set of features. The set of features and the assist channel are digitally signed and the append to the document. Document verification is accomplished by acquiring document image data and verifying the signature. If the signature is valid, a set of features of the document is generated using information contained in the assist channel appended to the document. The generated set of features is then compared to the set of features appended on the document. If the sets do not match, the document is determined to have been altered sometimes after the assist channel was appended to the document, i.e., the document is not genuine. Otherwise, the document can be considered to be genuine.

    • A method of demand dependent lead generation includes receiving a question from a consumer and forwarding the question to one or more subscribers. Preferably, the subscribers may review the question(s) from the consumers and individually determine whether to respond to one or more of the received questions. The subscribers are charged a price to respond to the question. The subscribers may review the question(s) from the consumers and individually determine whether to respond to one or more of the received questions. The price for responding is determined based on measured demand for responding to a plurality of questions. The consumer is notified of the responses from the subscribers that choose to respond. Alternatively, the responses are presented to the consumer. In one embodiment, the subscribers are charged the fee when the response is presented to the consumer that asked the question.

    • Apparatus and method for detecting anomalies in a computer system are disclosed herein. In some embodiments, multiple probes are executed on an evolving data set. Each probe may return a result. Property values are then derived from a respective result returned by a corresponding probe. Surprise scores corresponding to the property values are generated, where each surprise score is generated based on a comparison between a corresponding property value and historical property values. The corresponding property value and the historical property values are derived from results returned from the same probe. Historical surprise scores generated by the anomaly detection engine are accessed. Responsive to a comparison between the plurality of surprise scores and the plurality of historical surprise scores, a monitoring system is alerted of an anomaly regarding the evolving data set.

    • The invention pertains to a modular inter-unit transmitter/receiver for a portable audio device such as an MP3 player, a handheld device for playback of audio signals, a telephone, etc. More particularly, the unit is configured for an audio player device to enable the player device for wireless transmission and reception of audio signals. In one aspect, a communication means connects the modular audio unit to the audio player device. The device further comprises a switch in which a user of the audio player device can select to play audio signals received from an inter-unit transmitter/receiver or from the audio player device. The switch further enables the user to select whether to play the audio signal on the audio player device or to play the audio signal while transmitting the signal to a compatible device.

    • Embodiments of a system, a method, and a computer-program product (e.g., software) that facilitates collaborative interaction with content by multiple users are described. In this system, users of a distributed group of dedicated electronic devices provide signals that indicate their current actions as they view the content. Using these signals, the system provides additional signals for display on the group of electronic devices. These additional signals provide an environment that includes the content and the current user actions, which allows the users to collaboratively interact with the content and with each other. Moreover, the multiple users may be dynamically aggregated based on their actions, which allows a social network to be established and dynamically maintained based on user activities and interests.
