    • Sprue gated injection molding apparatus for molding preforms or other products having two layers of a barrier material such as EVOH or nylon alternating between three layers of another thermal plastic material such as PET. The PET is injected by one injection cylinder into first and third melt passages which branch in a front melt distribution manifold to extend to a number of heated nozzles. The first melt passage extends through a central melt channel in each heated nozzle and the third melt passage extends through an outer annular melt channel surrounding the central melt passage to an aligned gate leading to a cavity. The barrier material is injected by another injection cylinder into a second melt passage which branches in a rear melt distribution manifold to extend to an inner annular melt channel extending between the central melt passage and the outer annular melt channel in each heated nozzle. A single control valve mounted in the first melt passage before it branches in the front melt distribution manifold allows separate control of melt flow through each of the three melt passages during the injection cycle.

    • A plastic part having a complex structure as a first layer and a simple structure as a second layer, is formed using a method for molding. Initially, a single mold is provided, the mold having an interior cavity and a runner reaching from an exterior of the mold to the cavity. The mold is kept closed while a quantity of a first plastic material is injected via the runner into the interior cavity to form a first layer of the plastic part. The mold is then partially opened, creating an increased interior cavity section, into which a quantity of a second plastic material is injected, via the runner, to form a second layer of the plastic part. The solidified plastic part can then be ejected from the mold.

    • Method and apparatus for manufacturing a synthetic resin-made hollow member incorporating an intermediate element are provided which enable operations of molding half bodies, abutting and joining the half bodies together, and molding an intermediate element in a series of steps, and which eliminate the necessity of such a manual work as may otherwise be required in incorporating the intermediate element into the half bodies. A pair of rotary injection molding dies are used which can be opened and closed relative to each other and are rotatable relative to each other over an angle of 60° for each turn, each die having a half body molding section including one male molding portion and two female molding portions in the direction of rotation for each rotational run over an angle of 120°, each die also having an intermediate element molding portion provided between specified half body molding portions in the direction of each rotational run over an angle of 120°. In each two rotational runs of the molding dies, a series of steps is carried out including first injection for molding a pair of half bodies and an intermediate element, molded product setting for matching two half bodies with the intermediate element set in place and abutting the two half bodies against each other, and second injection for injecting melted resin onto the abutting portions and joining the two half bodies, whereby a hollow member with the intermediate element set between the two half bodies can be obtained.

    • The present invention provides a process and apparatus for manufacturing an electromagnetic interference shielding metallic foil cladded plastic product. The process comprises (a) coating one side of a superplastic alloy plate with a coupling agent or a hot melt adhesive; (b) placing the coupling agent- or hot melt adhesive-coated superplastic alloy plate in a mold, and superplastically forming the superplastic alloy plate to a superplastic alloy foil with a predetermined shape, such that another side of the superplastic alloy foil is attached to the mold and the coupling agent- or hot melt adhesive-coated side of the superplastic alloy foil is spaced apart from the mold to form a mold cavity, wherein an injection machine is attached to the mold cavity, and wherein the injection machine is capable of injecting softened plastic into the mold cavity; (c) introducing softened plastic from the injection machine to the mold cavity, such that plastic adheres on the coupling agent- or hot melt adhesive-coated side of the superplastic alloy foil, and an electromagnetic interference shielding metallic foil cladded plastic product is formed; and (d) removing the plastic product from the mold. The final metallic plastic product can not only have as intricate a shape as an ordinary plastic product, but also has a shielding effectiveness as high as an ordinary metallic shield.

    • An injection molding system for molding a hollow plastic article employs a hollow mold core having a longitudinal axis and a core runner cavity that has a uniform cross section throughout and which extends to the open end of the mold core. The mold core includes at least one core ejection gate and at least one core inlet gate leading from the outer surface of the core wall to the core runner cavity. When molding is performed in stages, there is it least one core ejection gate for each stage of molding. The core is clamped in between separate sets of molding blocks for each stage of molding. A core end closure cap having a core extension cavity aligned with the core runner cavity is used to close the open end of the mold core. A molten plastic is injected into the outer molding blocks and is confined to travel through the core inlet gate of the core without entering the mold cavity directly so that the molten plastic is forced to pass through the core runner cavity in order to reach the core ejection gates. Upon cooling, the core runner solidifies and is gripped and pulled longitudinally out of the core mold without leaving any residue of the plastic whatsoever.
