A sealing member comprising a kneaded mixture 5 of 30-60 wt% graphite powder and 70-40 wt% fluorine oil, and a fluorine resin tape 6 is placed between the end of the rib-installed electrode 2 and the gas separating plate 3 before the fuel cell is assembled. Thereby, elasticity and adhesion between the end of the electrode and the gas separating plate are increased. Therefore, gas leakage from the end space is surely prevented and the life of the fuel cell is lengthened.
