    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for hydrolyzing polysaccharides with a solid acid catalyst, whereby the hydrolysis can be more efficiently conducted than by known methods, and a stirring apparatus for the method. SOLUTION: The method for hydrolyzing the polysaccharides with the solid acid catalyst includes conducting a hydrolysis reaction under such conditions that water is used in an amount smaller than that corresponding to the proportion of the solid acid catalyst to the water, i.e., (solid acid catalyst): water, of 3:7 by weight. The stirring apparatus for the method includes a vessel and a stirrer disposed in the vessel. The stirrer includes a rotating shaft which is rotatable and a plurality of platy stirring blades fixed to the rotating shaft. The stirring blades are disposed in a plurality of stages apart from each other in the axial direction of the rotating shaft. When viewed from one end side of the rotating shaft, the stirring blade fixed in one position is disposed so as to differ in phase angle from the stirring blade fixed in an adjacent position on the rotating shaft. Both radial-direction ends of each stirring blade are bent at an angle of ±60° against an angle parallel with the inner wall of the vessel when viewed from a lateral side of the rotating shaft.     • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel catalyst precursor prepared by fixing a metal species to a specific solid acid, a catalyst material derived from the catalyst precursor, and method of preparing the catalyst. SOLUTION: The catalyst precursor includes amorphous carbon to which a metal salt of an acidic group has been introduced. The precursor is synthesized by mixing the amorphous carbon to which an acidic group has been introduced with an aqueous solution comprising a metal ion and exchanging the ions. The catalyst material is prepared by reducing the catalyst precursor. The catalyst material includes a micro-support comprising graphene sheets constituting the amorphous carbon and a catalyst metal produced by reducing the metal ion and being supported by the micro-support. The catalyst material has a catalytic function different from an acid catalyst function owned by a solid acid. The growth of the catalyst metal particles in the catalyst material is suppressed because the metal ion supported by the micro-support (graphene sheets) and fixed to the carbon solid acid has a bond with the micro-support.
