The system is equipped with the portable unit 12 which determines the positional information of the portable unit which is the present positional information of the system itself and then transmits a portable positional information K containing the positional information of the portable unit by using the portable unit 12; and the system is also equipped with a vehicle controller 14 which receives the positional signal K of the portable unit and then determines the vehicle positional information as the present positional information of itself. The vehicle controller 14 allows the operation (locking or unlocking of door locks and engine starting) of the control object when the positional information of the portable unit contained in the positional signal K of the portable unit coincides with the positional information of the vehicle. Since the distance from the distance sensor 70 to the furthest outside surface of the webbing belt 26 fluctuates depending on an quantity of the webbing belt 26 taken-up in the spool 24, the quantity of the webbing belt 26 taken-up in the spool 24, that is, an quantity of the webbing belt 26 withdrawn from the spool 24 is estimated, and thereby, the position of an occupant mounted with the webbing belt 26 is estimated.

    • PURPOSE: To accurately detect a passenger seating on a seat by providing a passenger presence judging means to produce a distance data difference between objects continuously in time series detected by a distance sensor and judge that a seating passenger is present on a seat when the difference exceeds a given value. CONSTITUTION: An air bag device 20 is installed in an instrument panel 18 and a distance sensor 24 is attached below an air bag case 28 in the instrument panel 18. The distance sensor 24 comprises an ultrasonic distance sensor and is arranged in such a manner that the detecting direction points to the center in the direction of width of a car of a seat back 14A. A difference between distance data and a preceding read distance data is calculated. When the difference exceeds a given value, it is judged that seating passenger is present on a seat and the air bag device 20 is brought into an operable state. Meanwhile, when the difference is below a given value, it is judged that a seating passenger is absent on a seat, namely, it is judged that a luggage is placed on the seat and the passenger does not seat and the air bag device 20 is brought into an inoperable state.
