    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a shock absorbing mechanism and a pressure absorbing function which secure the integrity in case of a drop event and a thermal environmental event with a simple structure while curbing the enlargement of casks and the application of load.
      SOLUTION: A shock absorber 1, which suppresses the shock given to a fuel assembly 100 stored in a fuel assembly storage cask 200 with its inside soaked in water W is placed at least at one end of the fuel assembly 100 with the absorber 1 soaked in the water W, has an enclosed space 3a inside itself and also includes a buffer 3 which is deformed by the shock to open the enclosed space 3a. If the fuel assembly storage cask 200 drops, the buffer 3 will be deformed to absorb the shock caused by the drop. Moreover, an opening of the enclosed space 3a through the deformation of the buffer 3 improves makes a region inside the enclosed space 3a serve as an air space A to improve a void rate inside the fuel assembly storage cask 200 and restrain a pressure (internal pressure) in an internal space 201a from rising due to an expansion of the water W in a thermal environmental event.
