A restriction means to restrict the combination of modes restricts the modes which can be selected according to the modes selected by other groups in the selection of the mode belonging to a certain group, or automatically change the modes selected in other groups according to the selected mode when the mode belonging to the certain group is selected. For example, when a long distance focus fixed mode is selected after a stroboscope continuous light-emitting mode is selected, the stroboscope continuous light-emitting mode is automatically changed to a stroboscope light- emitting prohibition mode. This change can easily be understood from the display contents of the LCD panel 84.

Then, a flag for inhibiting photographing in the mode of 'photographing 1' is set so to inhibit photographing by APS and DSC even 'photographing 1' is set (S210). Display that photographing by DSC is inhibited and the display showing that the remaining capacity of the APS battery is small are performed (S212).

By turning the member 40 counterclockwise, a lock mechanism is released and the cover 30 is opened. Since the member 40 has a lever function, the lock releasing operation of the lock mechanism can be performed with a small force.

Since the small-sized magnet 61 is used, cost and power consumption are restrained to be low.

Therefore, the display of the LCD 71 including the date can be arbitrarily selected by the taste of a camera user. When the color film is obtained, a color picture is displayed on a liquid crystal monitor 8, based on a luminance signal and a color difference signal and when the monochrome film is obtained, only the luminance signal is used to display a black-and-white picture on the liquid crystal monitor 8. Further, it is discriminated whether the film loaded in the camera is a daylight or artificial light one and the tone and hue of the picture display on the monitor 8 are corrected in accordance with the spectral sensitivity of the film.
