    • A main lens portion in a three beam in-line type color cathode ray tube includes spaced-apart tube-like electrodes having elongated openings at facing ends thereof, and plate electrodes disposed therein. At least one of electron beam apertures in the two plate electrodes is a barrel-like aperture. The barrel-like aperture is defined by two arcs extending in the direction perpendicular to the inline direction and two straight lines extending in the inline direction. The apertures for the side electron beams in the plate electrode can be replaced with cutouts therein. Each of the cutouts is defined by two straight lines extending in the inline direction and an arc convexly curved toward the tube axis and extending in the direction perpendicular to the inline direction.

    • To correct a deterioration by a deflection aberration of an electron beam spot at a peripheral portion of an image plane and to promote the resolution, a cathode ray tube is proposed which is composed of an acceleration electrode 32 and a first kind and a second kind of focusing electrode group 311, 313, 312 and 314 which are applied with a first and a second focusing voltage, wherein a first electron lens in which a first focusing force for focusing the electron beam in the horizontal direction is always stronger than a second focusing force for focusing it in the vertical direction, and a second electron lens wherein the focusing force for focusing the electron beam in the horizontal direction or in the vertical direction is stronger than the other depending on the relative sizes of a first focusing voltage applied on the first kind of focusing electrode group and a second focusing voltage applied on the second kind of focusing electrode group, are formed among the first kind and the second kind of electrode group, and a dynamic voltage which changes in accordance with a deflection amount of the electron beam is superposed on a constant voltage, in either one of the first and the second focusing voltage.

    • An electron gun for a color picture tube has at least a cathode, a control grid, an accelerating grid, a focus grid and an anode, each of which has three apertures aligned in line. The focus grid and the anode made of elongated plates serves as main lens electrodes, and the apertures of the focus grid and the anode constitute a main lens assembly. The three apertures of each of the elongated plates has a central aperture defined by two first curves arcuated outward, two side apertures each of which is defined by a second curve as an inner half arcuated inward and a third curve as an outer half arcuated outward, the first and second curves being less arcuated than the third curve. The three apertures are aligned such that the major axes thereof are parallel to a shorter axis of the elongated plate and are located at equal intervals. The three apertures are spaced apart from each other through corresponding bridge portions. The third curve of each of the two side apertures is apart from a corresponding end of the elongated plate along the longitudinal direction.
