    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily increase the storage capacity of an article storage part and enable cooling around a fuel injection device without the interference of the article storage part with members such as a throttle body and the fuel injection device when adopting such members in place of a conventional carburetor for a small vehicle such as a motorcycle or a motor tricycle. SOLUTION: This internal combustion engine comprises a crank case 111, a cylinder 113 extending from the crank case frontward to a body in an approximately horizontal direction, a cylinder head 115 , an inlet passage 122 provided in the cylinder head with its upstream end opening to the upper part of the cylinder head, an inlet pipe 134 connected to the upstream end of the inlet passage with its upstream end directed backward to the body, and a throttle body with a built-in throttle valve 135 connected to the upstream end of the inlet pipe and arranged nearly above the crank case. The inlet passage is provided with an inlet valve 121, an inlet system 130 located between the inlet valve and the throttle valve is formed into an approximately U-shaped passage protruded frontward to the body, and the fuel injection device 140 is arranged at the front end thereof.     • PURPOSE:To form the size of a carburetor in the vertical direction as short as possible so as to attain miniaturization of the carburetor by sandwiching the inner circumferential edge part of a diaphragm with a horizontal turning part and a retainer fitted to a lower hanging down part. CONSTITUTION:A vacuum piston 5 is elevatably fitted in a guide cylinder 4, and the outer circumferential part of the top end contacting flange 5a of the vacuum piston 5 contacting with the upper end edge 4a of the guide cylinder 4 is formed downward foldedly into a cylindrical shape. Further the lower part of the cylindrical hanging down part 5b is turned perpendicularly outward so as to form a horizontal turning part 5c. The inner circumferential edge part 7a and the outer circumferential edge part 7b of a diaphragm 7 are respectively applied on the horizontal turning part 5c and the upper end flange part 6a of an outer cylinder part 6, and a retainer 8 is threadedly fitted or press- fitted to the cylindrical hanging down part 5b. Hereby, the vertical size of a carburetor 1 can be formed as short as possible, so as to attain miniaturization of the carburetor 1.
