    • A CPU creates a file management BSI and a file management BPT in a zone 0 included in a flash memory storing directories and an FAT, and stores the created BSI and BPT in an SRAM. In response to a command from a computer to read data, the CPU specifies and reads positions of the directories and the FAT based on the file management BPT, and sends the computer with the read data. When accessing data belong to any zone other than the zone 0, the CPU creates a general BPT again, but does not update the file management BPT. Even if data which has previously been accessed belongs to any zone, the directories and the FAT can be accessed without creating the BPT again. Updating of the directories and the FAT can be also achieved without creating the BSI again.

    • A storage device includes a partition wall dividing an interior of a casing into a disk chamber and a drive chamber. Recording disks are rotatably disposed in the disk chamber. Arms, each supporting a read/write head at a distal end portion thereof are capable of exteding into the respective spaces between the recording disks through an opening of the partition wall. An actuator is mounted within the drive chamber for linearly reciprocating the arms to cause the heads to skim across recording surfaces of the recording disks. An interrupting surface is formed on a portion of the partition wall at a downstream side of the arm with respect to an air flow due to the rotation of the recording disks, for interrupting the air flow to convert a dynamic pressure of the air flow into a static pressure thereof. With this arrangement, the air is prevented from flowing back from the drive chamber into the disk chamber.

    • A head arm for use in a magnetic disk drive, comprising a guide arm disposed between a magnetic head and an actuator so as to transmit actuating force of the actuator to the magnetic head thereby guiding the magnetic head along a plane of a magnetic disk, a printed circuit fixed to the guide arm, and deflection compensating member for making the coefficients of thermal expansion of said guide arm and said printed circuit substantially equal to each other in at least the direction of seek of the head arm. No thermal deformation in an out-of-plane direction occurs on such a head arm regardless of any variation in the temperature of the environment in which the magnetic disk drive is installed. A head arm may also comprise a guide arm and a printed circuit formed of a moisture absorptive material and covered at all or part of its surfaces with a covering layer formed of a moisture resistive material not permeable to moisture. No deformation in an out-of-plane direction occurs on such a head arm regardless of any variation in the humidity of the environment in which the magnetic disk drive is installed. Therefore, the possibility of occurrence of off-track can be minimized.
