摘要： A durable etalon based laser output coupler for ultraviolet lasers such as an ArF excimer laser or an F2 laser has two prisms (164A, 164B) aligned so that a first surface of one prism is parallel to a first surface of the other prism. The first prism has a second surface forming an angle with a beam from a laser cavity approximately equal to Brewster's angle. The second prism has a second surface forming an angle with the coupler exit beam approximately equal to Brewster's angle. For a wavelength of 193 nm, in an ArF excimer laser, Brewster's angle is about 57 degrees and each of the first and second surfaces define an apex angle of about 34 degrees. In a preferred embodiment, the device is used as an output coupler for line narrowed ArF excimer laser (63) having a diffraction grating based line narrowing module.

摘要： A diode pumped doubling system employs a pump diode (2), a crystal (1) and doubler (8) in a laser cavity with the diode and is operated in a pulsed or low duty cycle pumping regimen, while the cavity length is sufficiently short to stabilize the transient responses to pulsed diode operation and produce stable and known or controlled energy output under the non-CW pumping regimen. The construction allows stable output to be maintained with much looser temperature control, and to be achieved during the initial turn-on interval of the laser diode. In a preferred embodiment, the device employs a doubler which is clamped across its non-critical axis, and is operated with a control system which creates isotherms in the active mode volume. The controller operates one or more separate heat sources and/or sinks to preheat the diode source (2) or doubling crystal (8) to maintain an oriented thermal gradient, and the rate or direction at which the isotherm migrates across the mode volume is controlled in accordance with the forthcoming pulse sequence to maintain effectively stable conditions during laser operation. The thermal control system may include sink (46), heater (42, 44) and control elements for pre-heating the laser diode before actuation, and during quiet intervals.

摘要： A multi-wavelength etalon suitable for tuning and maintaining the operating frequency of a laser used in an optical communication system is disclosed. The communication system has a representative channel wavelength and a channel spacing. The etalon has a plurality of steps on one of the sides with a step size that is a fraction of the channel spacing. The nominal thickness of the etalon is chosen so that a transmission peak occurs at a wavelength substantially equal to the representative channel wavelength and a next peak occurs at the wavelength of an adjacent channel. The step size is a fraction of the channel separation and is substantially optimized so that a peak or trough in the transmission curve in the region of one step overlaps a steep portion of the transmission curve for one or more other steps.

摘要： A miniature, external cavity, filter-locked laser has a semiconductor optical amplifier, such as a diode laser, and a monolithic prism assembly positioned in the external resonant cavity. The monolithic prism assembly includes a transparent substrate carrying a thin film Fabry-Perot interference filter which is tilted, that is, oriented not normal to the path of the travel of the laser light in the external cavity. Such optical devices can be economically mass produced in advantageously small size, having reproducible spectral performance properties held within tight tolerances. Significantly advantageous applications include dense wavelength division multiplexing systems requiring tightly spaced wavelength subranges for each of the multiple channels. High wavelength stability against temperature and humidity changes, etc., can be achieved.
