    • A spherical shaped solar diode having an n-type substrate surrounded by a p-type layer of semiconductor material is disclosed. In addition, a plurality of hetero-junction super lattice structures are formed surrounding the p-type layer. The plurality of hetero-junction super lattice structures include alternating layers of Si and SeBeTe. The plurality of hetero-junction super lattice structures adapt the diode to convert higher energy light (as compared to 1.1eV light) to electrical energy. The diodes are formed into a solar panel assembly. The panel assembly includes a wire mesh to secure the diodes and electrically contact one electrode of each diode. A dimpled sheet is also used for securing the diodes and electrically contacting the other electrode of each diode. The diodes are positioned adjacent to the dimpled sheet so that when light is applied to the solar panel assembly, the diodes are exposed to the light on a majority of each diode's surface.

    • An implantable epicardial lead (13) is provided which is comprised of two spherical ICs (25) and (26) disposed at opposite ends of a supporting structure and separated by a predetermined distance. These spherical ICs comprise an anode and a cathode, each having connections thereto. The epicardial lead (13) includes circuitry for allowing inductive coupling of power into the epicardial lead (13) for storage in a capacitor (926). A switch (928) allows for selective discharge of the capacitor (926) to the surrounding myocardium into which it is implanted. The epicardial lead (13) also includes a receive/transmit device (942) for receiving command information for storage in a memory (939) to provide operation information therefor and also for receiving sensed information therefrom. The sensed information is sent via a switch (930).

    • A system and method for polishing spherical shaped devices is disclosed. The system includes a carrier and an enclosure. The carrier has two projections so that when a device is placed between the projections, it contacts the carrier at two contact points. The enclosure matingly engages with the carrier so that it also contacts each device at two contact points. A movement system, such as a motor, provides relative movement between the carrier and the enclosure so that the four contact points polish each device. Also, the relative movement moves each device so that the device's entire outer surface is polished by the apparatus.
