SOLUTION: An AC switchgear has a main contact (contact, mechanism) 2a freely approachable/separable to make/break an alternating current, a mechanism 2a to approach/separate the contact 2a, a control 5 to drive and control the mechanism 2a and high frequency current circuits 10, 20 connected in parallel to the contact 2a to superpose a high frequency current with a higher frequency than that of the alternating current on the alternating current when the control 5 drives the mechanism 2a to separate the contact 2a. When the alternating current is about zero with the high frequency current circuits 10, 20 superposing the high frequency current, the alternating current is shut off.

    • PURPOSE:To prevent decrease of dielectric strength and damage of an insulator by providing constitution such that at least a notch or hole is provided in a direction of flowing a current through an arc, generated between electrodes, in a flying vehicle rear part to confine the arc in these notch or hole. CONSTITUTION:A notch 2d is provided in a direction of current flowing through an arc, generated between electrodes 1a, 1b, in a flying vehicle 2, and both blades of the notch 24, that is, arc guides 2a, 2b are connected by a flying vehicle head part 2c. The arc 3, generated in a rear part of the flying vehicle 2, receives force in a direction of an arrow mark 8 by a magnetic field of the current, flowing in the rail-shaped electrodes 1a, 1b, to advance into the notch 2d of the flying vehicle 2. Thereafter, the arc 3 is left as advancing between the arc guides 2a, 2b to drive the flying vehicle 2 in the direction of the arrow mark. Here, the arc is advanced between the arc guides 2a, 2b of the flying vehicle 2 in its acceleration process, so that a part, faced to a bore of insulators 6a, 6b, is prevented from directly coming into contact with a high temperature part of the arc.

    • PURPOSE:To suppress the generation of a surge voltage by applying a superconductive substance to the current-carrying part between the terminals at both sides, and then varying the cross-sectional area orthogonal to the direction the current flows as it goes forward in the direction the current flows, and at the same time cooling the current-carrying part to a temperature required for the superconductive substance in the current-carrying part to maintain its superconductive state. CONSTITUTION:The captioned device is constituted in such a manner that the current-carrying part 13 consisting of a superconductive substance is provided between the No.1 and No.2 terminals 1, 2 at both sides so as to be joined to these terminals 1, 2, and it is formed so that the cross-sectional area orthogonal to the current-carrying direction is varied, and at the same time, a prescribed cooling is performed by a cooling device 15. Thereby, the generation of a surge voltage, which is due to a sudden collapse in the superconductive state caused by overcurrent, can be suppressed, and at the same time, a current limiting device, which can be used a vast number of times and has a long life, can be obtained.
