    • A breaker comprises a stator (3) having a fixed contact (2), a mover (5) having a movable contact (4) that is swingably supported by a shaft (7) and can be separated from the fixed contact (2) and brought into contact with it, and a shunt conductor (10) having one end fixed to the rear end of the mover (5) opposite to the movable contact (4) with respect to the shaft (7) and the other end connected to a terminal (9). The breaker is so structured that the magnetic flux produced by a current flowing through the shunt conductor (10) and the electromagnetic force due to the current act on the mover (5) to move the movable contact (4) toward the fixed contact (2). The length from the shaft (7) of the mover (5) to the rear end is two or more times the distance from the shaft (7) to the movable contact (4) in the horizontal direction. One end of the shunt conductor (10) is secured directly to the rear end of the mover (5).
