    • A watercraft includes a hull construction that incorporates several aspects to reduce the operating noise of the watercraft. One structural aspect improves sound insulation about the engine compartment, and includes a seat design that facilitates such improvement. Insulating material is injected between the hull and inner walls and inserts. The seat design also incorporates air pockets to insulate an upper side of an engine compartment and aft compartment in which a water trap is located. The air supply and cooling system of the watercraft also uses resonator chambers to quiet engine and exhaust noise emitted through the ducts of the system. Another aspect involves insulating a portion of the exhaust system within the insulating material. These aspects of the hull construction each reduce the operating noise of the watercraft.

    • An engine for a small watercraft, having an exhaust system that extends from an engine body and then generally surrounds the engine body. An air chamber of an air induction system for the engine, which has a relatively large volume, is located under the exhaust system. An exhaust manifold of the exhaust system has a slant opening, from which the other components of the exhaust system extends. A single, rigid coolant delivery conduit is affixed to the exhaust manifold so that a coolant jacket therein can be supplied with coolant through the delivery conduit. A plurality of carburetors each having a throttle valve are provided for the engine. A control mechanism for controlling an opening of the throttle valves is positioned at one side of the carburetors, while an interlocking mechanism for activating the throttle valves synthetically is positioned at another side of the carburetors.

    • A circulating fuel supply apparatus for an engine of a small watercraft, formed so as to supply fuel in a fuel tank to at least one injector via a fuel supply pipe using a fuel pump. The apparatus returns excess fuel in at least one injector to the fuel tank via a fuel return pipe. A heat exchanger uses externally obtained cooling water as a fuel cooling device in the portion of the fuel supply pipe which is between the fuel pump and the injector. As the fuel which is about to enter the injector is cooled, a sufficiently cooled fuel can be supplied to at least one injector as compared with a case where return fuel is cooled, thus enabling the injector to carry out proper fuel injection operation.

    • The invention includes an oil system vent that is remote from an oil reservoir so that the oil reservoir can be stored in the bilge section of a boat. The oil reservoir has an oil supply outlet and an oil supply return. The oil reservoir is constructed without a ventilation means attached thereto. The oil system vent includes an oil return port having an oil input and an oil output. The oil input receives pressurized lubricant and the oil output returns the pressurized lubricant to the oil supply return of the oil reservoir. The oil return port has a vent port in communication with atmospheric pressure so that when lubricant is drawn and used from the oil reservoir, the vent port allows air to displace the used lubricant in the oil reservoir. The oil reservoir is positioned at a relatively low elevation, in the bilge section of the boat, and the vent port is positioned at a relatively high elevation with respect to the outboard motor.

    • An outboard motor includes a first case and a second case disposed below the first case. The first case houses therein an oil pan and an upper part of a drive shaft. Within the oil pan, engine oil is held. The second case has its upper edge portion coupled to a lower edge portion of the first case. The second case has a vertical wall disposed therewithin. The vertical wall separates a space within the second case into a cavity and part of an exhaust passage through which exhaust gas passes. The cavity is formed below the oil pan. This arrangement prevents the oil pan from being affected by heat of the exhaust gas. Thus, it becomes possible to prevent the engine oil held within the oil from increasing in temperature.

    • A mounting assembly for an anode of a corrosion protection system extends the useful life of the anode and hence the effectiveness of the system. The anode is mounted within an opening of an outboard motor engine. The engine also includes a coolant passage that extends through the engine and forms a portion of a cooling system. A biasing device biases the anode to contact the engine body. The anode also includes multiple contact surfaces which establish a plurality of electrical connections between the anode and the engine. In one mode, an electrically conductive cover links the anode to the engine at a point outside the opening. A seal is positioned between the opening and the cover to protect this electrical coupling. This outside connection thus ensures good electrical coupling between the anode and the engine body outside the presence of the coolant (e.g., salt water) flowing through the coolant passage.
