摘要： PURPOSE:To realize a high-density optical cable by bundling plural pieces of optical fibers subjected to primary covering to the highest density and welding or adhering the contact points of the coverings to each other. CONSTITUTION:Plural pieces of the optical fibers 1 on the surface of which primary coverings 2 consisting of a synthetic resin are thinly formed are bundled to the construction of highest demity and the contact points of the coverings are welded or adhered to each other to form the welded or adhered parts 8 of the primary coverings. The multicored strands assembled in such a manner are further provided with a covering and are thereby formed into the prescribed cable. The high-density optical cable is thus obtd. The cores are connectable to each other with high efficiency and since the strand is easily manufacturable, the cost thereof is reduced.

After charging an uncured resin 6 into the coaters 10A, 10B, the parts 3A, 3B freed of their coverings and connected and the coaters 10A, 10B are relatively moved in the axial direction of the parts 3A, 3B to coat the uncured resin 6 on the outsides of the parts 3A, 3B. The uncured resin 6 is cured to form a reinforcing covering layer.

In the spraying region, an uncured resin 6 is sprayed on the outsides of the parts 3A, 3B from a sprayer 10. When a fixed amount of the resin is coated on the outsides of the parts 3A, 3B, the spraying is stopped once, and curing energy is irradiated on the coated resin 6 from a curing device 11 in the irradiating region to cure the resin 6. The sprayer 10 and the curing device 11 are placed at one end and the other end of a segment of a line which meets at right angles with the parts 3A, 3B.

摘要： PURPOSE:To improve the adhesive strength in the juncture of a pair of optical fibers to be connected by forming films by silicone oil on the outside circumferences of said fibers and melt sticking the same then treating the surface of the juncture with a corrosive soln. which dissolves the optical fibers. CONSTITUTION:Prior to butting the end faces of a pair of optical fibers 3A, 3B to be connected to each other and melt sticking the same to each other, films 4A, 4B of silicone oil are formed on the outside surfaces of the fibers 3A, 3B using absorbent cotton or the like. The fibers are cut perpendicularly to make butt end faces 5A, 5B, which are melt stuck and connected with discharge electrodes 6M, 6N whereby a juncture 7 is obtaned. Thereafter, the juncture 7 is dipped in a corrosive soln. 8 consisting of aq. mixed solns. of hydrofluoric acid and strong acid, and is subjected to a surface treatment for a prescribed time. The factors for degrading strength are eliminated by such two ways of the treatments before and after the connection, whereby the mechanical strength in the juncture of the optical fibers is improved remarkably.

摘要： PURPOSE:To uniformly obtain a required mode field diameter by measuring an optical loss during the heading of the connection part of optical fibers which is previously fusion-spliced and when the measured loss value reaches a regulated value, aborting the heating. CONSTITUTION:Light projected from a light source 31 in a control part 3 is propagated through the optical fiber 1a, passed through the fusion-spliced part 11, propagated through the optical fiber 1b, and then made incident upon an optical power measuring part 32. When the prescribed position of the optical fibers 1a, 1b including the connection part 11 is heated by gas burners 2a, 2b in parallel with said light propagation, the mode field diameter of the heating part is gradually expanded. The optical power of light made incident upon the measuring part 32 is measured and the measured value is inputted to a heating control part 33 as a measuring signal MS. The control part 33 grasps a connection loss value due to a heating time based upon the signal MS and estimates the connection loss to stop the heating. After the lapse of time to stop the heating based upon the estimated result, a stop signal ST is generated to stop the heating of the burners 2a, 2b.

A holding plate 6 is made to adhere closely thereon, and by further heating it, plural connecting parts are fixed as one body in a shape of a sandwich by the reinforcing body 4 and the holding plate 6. In such a way, by reinforcing in a lump plural optical fiber welding and connecting parts 3 by one reinforcing body 4, the number of necessary connecting part reinforcing bodes can be decreased, with respect to an optical cable for containing many optical fiber core wires 2. Accordingly, a connecting case for containing them can be miniaturized.
