SOLUTION: In the method for controlling a liquid ejector comprising a pressure generating chamber 32 communicating with a nozzle opening 33 and having a Helmholtz oscillation frequency of period Tc, and a pressure generating means 38 for imparting a pressure to ink in the pressure generating chamber 32 and stirring ink in the vicinity of the nozzle opening 33 by driving the pressure generating means 38 of the liquid ejector ejecting ink drops thereby exciting a meniscus to perform microoscillation, a microoscillation driving process 61 is provided in order to stir ink in the vicinity of the nozzle opening by imparting a pressure to ink in the pressure generating chamber 32 without ejecting an ink drop from the nozzle opening 33 thereby exciting the meniscus to perform Helmholtz oscillation of period Tc. According to the arrangement, ink is prevented from being thickened or dried and high speed printing is realized by performing the microoscillation process in a short time.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid ejector which can eject a liquid drop more stably by effectively suppressing meniscus vibration at a nozzle opening corresponding to a pressure generating chamber not subjected to deformation driving. SOLUTION: A pressure generating chamber 3 has a Helmholtz resonance frequency of period TH. A drive signal has a first signal element for expanding the pressure generating chamber 3, a second signal element for contracting the pressure generating chamber 3 in an expanded state, and a third signal element for expanding the pressure generating chamber 3 up to a state prevailing before output of the first signal element after a liquid drop is ejected. The time elapsed after starting output of the first signal element before starting output of the second signal element, and the time elapsed after starting output of the second signal element before starting output of the third signal element are substantially equal to the period TH of Helmholtz resonance frequency. Furthermore, the sum of amplitude of the first and third signal elements is substantially equal to the amplitude of the second signal element.

      SOLUTION: An ink outflow opening 35 communicating with a head holder is arranged more outside than a spread part 42 of an ink feed needle 45. Recessed parts 46, 47 leading to the ink outflow opening 35 are formed from a position closer to the ink outflow opening 35 than a center line of the ink feed needle 45. A filter member 48 is stretched to separate the recessed parts 46, 47. A bottom part B1 of an air bubble B growing large at an effective area of the filter member 48 is prevented from being in touch with the recessed parts 46, 47.
