The rice washer is so controlled that the agitating time for agitating the rice before discharging the rice from the rice washing drum 10 is made longer in correspondence to the duration of the standby time before the discharge of the rice is possible after the end of the rice washing.

Concerning such a rice washing method, the supply of water is started in the rice washing process by opening the water supply valve 10 in the state of closing the water drain valve 11 and when the inside of the rice washing tank 6 is filled with the prescribed quantity of water, the water drain valve 11 is opened. After the state of opening both the valves is maintained for prescribed time, this process is finished. In the rice polishing process, the water supply valve 10 is opened and when the prescribed quantity of water is drained out of the rice washing tank 6, the water drain valve 11 is closed. After the state of closing both the valves for prescribed time is maintained, this process is finished.
