    • PURPOSE: To produce a maraging steel having high tensile strength by subjecting a steel consisting of specifically composed Ni, Co, Mo, Ti, Al, C, N, Si, Mn, P, S and Fe to a specific soln. heat treatment and aging treatment.
      CONSTITUTION: A maraging steel consisting of 16W19wt% Ni, 12W15% Co, 4.5W 5.5% Mo, 1.5W2.0% Ti, 0.01W0.2% Al, ≤0.03% C+N, ≤0.2% Si, ≤0.2% Mn, ≤0.01% P, ≤0.01% S and the balance substantially Fe is subjected to a soln. heat treatment and is then subjected to primary cold working at 25W90% reduction of area followed by a soln. heat treatment in a temp. range of 800W890°C so that the structure thereof is finely grained. Such steel is then subjected to a preliminary aging treatment in a temp. range of 350W650°C to cause precipitation hardening and is thereafter subjected to secondary cold working at 40W75% reduction of area and further a final aging treatment in a temp. range of 500W 560°C. The maraging steel having ≥300kg/mm
      2 tensile strength at a room temp., ≥0.6% tensile elongation at a room temp. and having malleability is thus obtd.
