摘要： A thin film magnetic head that provides a high signal to noise ratio is used for disc recording with track densities of 1800 tracks per inch or better. The head unit has a base plate (100) with a film (200) that supports a lower magnetic pole piece (300), separated by a gap (G) from an upper pole piece (400). The gap region is provided by an insulator into which is embedded the windings (500) of a coil. The upper and lower magnetic pole pieces have widths of that are related to the track density by the difference in values being less than or equal to 5000/Tr, where Tr is the track density. ADVANTAGE - Improves track density and signal to noise ratio.

摘要： An integrated circuit package has a semiconductor element (1) mounted on an insulating substrate (4) which has a coefficient of thermal expansion from 35 to 40 x 10 -7 /°C and a high thermal conductivity, preferably a sintered product of silicon carbide. The substrate (4), and the element (1) are covered by a cap (5) which has a coefficient of thermal expansion of 20 to 55 x 10 -7 /°C and an airtight seal is provided by sealing glass (6) which has a coefficient of thermal expansion from 30 to 55 x 10 -7 /°C. Leads (3) extend through the glass (6) and are connected to the substrate (1) via wires (2). The leads have a coefficient of thermal expansion less than 40 x 10- 7 / °C, e.g. an alloy of iron containing nickel and cobalt. In this way the coefficient of thermal expansion of the leads (3) is set approximately equal to, or less than the coefficient of thermal expansion of the substrate (4), and this prevents cracking of the glass (6) when the package cools from the glass sealing temperature, or when the package is tested by thermal cycles.

摘要： PURPOSE:To form a pattern with a small dispersion of track width dimensions and without readhesion by producing the pattern by separate processes for the lower part of a step and the upper part of the step, making small the thickness of photosensitive resin film in the lower part of the step, irradiating the formed photosensitive film pattern with ultraviolet rays and hardening it. CONSTITUTION:After an upper magnetic film 16 is deposited on a substrate 11 having the step of an insulating film, a thin photosensitive resin is applied to the whole substrate 11 and it is patterned so that the resin may remain mainly in the lower part of the step. A thick photosensitive resin is applied to the whole substrate 11 and it is patterned so that the resin may remain mainly in the upper part of the step. Further, at least one of the two photosensitive resins is irradiated with the ultraviolet rays or far ultraviolet rays and the photosensitive resin is hardened. Thus, the readhesion does not occur at the time of ion-milling and the pattern with good dimensional accuracy can be formed also in the lower part of the step.

摘要： PURPOSE:To work a magnetic gap with high accuracy and yield by making the end face of a gap member at the back gap position at which an upper magnetic body is connected with a lower magnetic body, perpendicular or almost perpendicular to the lower magnetic body. CONSTITUTION:The end face of a gap member 4 is made perpendicular or almost perpendicular to a lower magnetic body 3 at the back gap position where an upper magnetic body 7 is connected with the lower magnetic body 3. When a base film, the lower magnetic body, the gap member, and an organic insulating film are formed on a base plate in prescribed order and dry etching is performed with a reactive gas by using the insulating film as a mask, the end face of the gap member becomes perpendicular or almost perpendicular to the lower magnetic body at the back gap position where the upper and lower magnetic bodies are connected with each other. Therefore, the contact area between the upper and lower magnetic bodies becomes the maximum and the magnetic resistance becomes the minimum. In addition, the gap opening starting position can be detected with high accuracy when a grinding work is performed at the front gap position of the preceding body of this thin-film magnetic head.

摘要： PURPOSE:To execute the patterning of a magnetic film with high accuracy without re-sticking by laminating a suitable film, which goes to be a mask, thinly and highly accurately on a film to be worked in the stepping part of a thin film magnetic head. CONSTITUTION:In mask formation, a part, for which working accuracy severely requested, (around the stepping part to include a lower part 5 of a step) and the other part are distinguished. Then, suitable methods for respective requests are adapted. Namely, a plating method is adapted concerning the former part and a photo-resist patterning method is adapted concerning the latter part. Then, a core-shaped mask is constituted by the linking of the two types of the masks. With using the synthesized mask to be made in such a way, the etching of an upper part magnetic film 3 is executed with Ar ion milling and working is completed. Thus, since the plating film of a satisfactory film thickness sticking is used as the mask for base film working in the stepping part, the magnetic film 3, for which the patterning is executed highly accurately without the re-sticking, can be formed.

摘要： PURPOSE:To speedily and accurately evaluate the characteristics of stress corrosion crack resistance by sticking a material which contains a chlorine element previously on the surface of the lead material and holding it in a high- temperature, high-humidity atmosphere while tensile stress is generated. CONSTITUTION:The plate type lead frame material having passed through a process where the material containing the chlorine element is stuck on the surface of the material is left in the high-temperature, high-humidity atmosphere of >=50 deg.C and 50% humidity while a tensile stress load is placed, and its cracking generation state is evaluated. It is evident that the lead frame material in an IC have a stress corrosion crack, and that results inevitably from the presence of tensile stress and corrosion environment factors; and what environment the IC is used in is further investigated and its environmental features are reflected as an important element of an evaluating method. Those various problems are therefore investigated.
