    • A viscous fluid type heat generator having a heat generating chamber in which heat generation by the viscous fluid is carried out in response to the rotation of a rotor element applying a shearing action to the viscous fluid, a heat generation control chamber for containing the viscous fluid to be supplied into the heat generating chamber and receiving the viscous fluid withdrawn from the heat generating chamber so that an ability of quickly increasing and decreasing the heat generating performance of the heat generator is achieved in response to a requirement for a change in the supply of heat to be exchanged with a heat exchanging liquid of a heating system. The heat generator has a fluid supplying passage, a fluid withdrawing passage, a fluid supplying recessed groove in the heat generating chamber, and a subsidiary fluid supplying passageway which are arranged so as to provide a fluid communication between the heat generating chamber and the heat generation control chamber. The heat generating performance is quickly reduced by withdrawing the viscous fluid from the heat generating chamber into the heat generation control chamber via the fluid withdrawing passage, and the heat generating performance is quickly increased by supplying the viscous fluid from the heat generation control chamber into the heat generating chamber via the fluid supplying and subsidiary fluid supplying passages.

    • The viscous type heat generator includes a housing having a heating chamber and a heat radiating chamber. A rotor is rotatably arranged in the heating chamber so that a viscous fluid is subjected to a shearing action to generate heat. The rotor is fitted on a drive shaft in such a manner that the rotor can not rotate but can move axially relative to the drive shaft. The front and rear end surfaces of the rotor have wedge effect producing means for correcting an axial offset of the rotor in the heating chamber by the wedge effect caused by the pressure of viscous fluid while the rotor is rotating. This wedge effect producing means comprises at least three inclined recesses extending in the circumferential direction, the bottoms of which become gradually shallower in the direction opposite to the rotational direction of the rotor. The inclined recesses are arranged at circumferentially regular intervals and at radially equal positions from the center of the rotor.

    • Disclosed herein is a rubber covered roll comprising a metallic core and at least one covering rubber layer. The covering rubber layer is a vulcanized rubber layer formed by a rubber composition comprising an ethylenically unsaturated nitrile-conjugated diene type highly saturated copolymer rubber (A) having a conjugated diene unit content of the polymer chain of at most 25 wt. % and the zinc salt (B) of an ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid. A covering rubber layer coming into contact with the metallic core is at least a vulcanized rubber layer formed by a rubber composition comprising 100 parts by weight of a rubber component containing at least 50 wt. % of the highly saturated copolymer rubber (A) and 10-40 parts by weight of the zinc salt (B). A rubber composition for rubber covered rolls is also disclosed. It comprises 100 parts by weight of a rubber component containing 90-50 wt. % of the highly saturated copolymer rubber (A) and 50-10 wt. % of a diene rubber, and 10-40 parts by weight of the zinc salt (B) of an ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid.

    • A tool holder is detachably secured to the lower end of a main spindle by means of a clamping nut having a female screw cooperating with a male screw of the main spindle such that keys are inserted into corresponding key recesses formed in an upper end face of the tool holder. Within the main spindle, there is arranged a driving shaft movably in an axial direction. Within the tool holder, a piston member is arranged movably in the axial direction. To a lower end of the driving shaft is provided a projection having a circular recess formed in an outer surface thereof. To an upper end portion of the piston member are secured a plurality of steel balls movably in a radial direction. A lower end of the piston member is formed as an inclined surface which is engaged with a cam surface of a tool fitting plate arranged movably in the radial direction. When the driving shaft is moved downward, the balls are inserted into the circular recess formed in the projection of the driving shaft so that the driving shaft is coupled with the piston member. Therefore, by moving the driving shaft up and down, the piston member is also moved up and down and this movement of the piston member is converted into the radial movement of the tool fitting plate. By moving the driving shaft upward, the tool holder may be exchanged automatically.

    • An axial piston pump, for pumping an operating oil in a hydraulic system, comprises a rotary cylinder block having a plurality of cylinder bores formed therein and disposed at regular intervals around a rotational axis thereof. Each bore is opened at a bottom thereof through a hole formed in an end wall of the cylinder block, a plurality of pistons being slidably received in the bores, respectively. The block end wall is resiliently pressed against the valve plate so that the holes of the bores are operatively connected with the suction and discharge ports of the valve plate during the rotation of the block. The valve plate has an annular seal land formed thereon and surrounding the ports, to thereby form an annular oil groove around the annular seal land, and a plurality of bearing lands formed at regularly spaced intervals along a periphery of the valve plate member, to thus form a radial oil passage between two adjacent bearing lands. The radial oil passage is at least partially defined by a cylindrical surface or sloped surface so that a penetration of the operating oil from the radial oil passage into a fine space between the bearing lands and the cylinder block end wall.
